World of Warcraft streamer Asmongold had some harsh words for small streamers that want to make it big.
Streaming has become a very lucrative career for larger content creators. Being able to make a living streaming your favorite games from home definitely sounds like a dream. But it may not become a reality for everyone, according to Asmongold.
The streamer currently has 3.4 million followers on his main Twitch channel, but he is thinking not all small streamers will be able to amass that many fans. Why? Their looks.
Asmongold is no stranger to making harsh and controversial statements on Twitch. He never shies away from sharing his opinions on stream. This time around, Asmongold decided to tackle the topic of smaller streamers struggling to grow their viewership on Twitch.
Asmongold warned viewers that they might not like his answer and that it will make him “look like an asshole.” But he decided to share the “uncomfortable shitty truth” anyway.
Explained Asmongold: “Well, here’s the thing right, you wanna know a really, really uncomfortable shitty truth? Is that if you’re ugly, people won’t like you. And this is even more true for girls. So if you’re really fat and really ugly, it doesn’t matter how funny you are, people just aren’t gonna like you. They don’t want to look at you. That’s it.”
The statement was met with amusement and shock from Asmongold’s viewers. A lot of them pointed out that Asmongold isn’t traditionally attractive himself, yet he has millions of fans. Others said that he already is seen as a “bit of a jerk,” so a little truth-telling won’t hurt his viewership.
Asmongold isn’t the only one to make statements like this, however. Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa and Imane “Pokimane” Anys have both discussed the troubling nature of being a female streamer and how your looks play a huge role in your fanbase.
