Amouranth argues that Twitch success isn’t easy for women
Amouranth argues that Twitch success isn't easy for women
Popular streamer Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa has always been controversial, and she has recently faced a lot of backlash recently for her hot tub streams.
The streaming community has mocked Amouranth and some other female streamers on Twitch, pointing out that it’s “easy” for them to get money and viewers by relying on their appearance alone. But Amouranth had a lot to say about her haters that think it’s easy to be a female streamer on Twitch. On her personal account, Amouranth hit back at trolls who look at the top 50 female streamers and conclude that all women have to do is “look pretty” to be a successful streamer.
Unpopular opinion: trolls love to look at the top 50 female streamers or take a glance at the top of the directory and conclude “all you have to do is look pretty to succeed as a girl streamer”
On its face this is a Logical fallacy
It actually implies that looking attractive
— Kaitlyn (@wildkait)
April 14, 2021
“It actually implies that looking attractive is not the only requirement but a prerequisite or baseline,” Amouranth said. “Survivorship bias aside, it’s probably harder for the average girl, and it says nothing about the pretty girls who cycle out and don’t ‘make it’ as streamers. But no one wants to talk about that.”
Some people didn’t agree with Amouranth’s take on female Twitch streamers. They pointed out that being attractive is a big part of the equation of Amouranth’s success, whether she wants to admit it or not.
“I mean that’s a little bit like saying a tiny part of a Formula One driver’s success in piloting his race car can be attributed to his passing his driver’s test and getting his license but it’s kind of moot,” Amouranth responded.
Amouranth’s position was that being pretty is only the beginning. Female streamers still have to put in the effort to become successful on Twitch, and many who might be considered conventionally attractive are unable to make it big.
Is it easy to be a female streamer on Twitch?
Being a female streamer is not an instant formula for success on Twitch. Top female streamers such as Amouranth and Imane “Pokimane” Anys have a lot of followers. But when viewers compare their viewership to the top male streamers on Twitch, the women are left in the dust. Even Rachel “Valkyrae” Hofstetter, who recently
became a co-owner of 100 Thieves
thanks in large part to her streaming success, is nowhere near the success of the top male streamers on Twitch and YouTube.
What does Amouranth do on Twitch?

Amouranth is recently known for taking part the “hot tub meta” on Twitch. Amouranth will often dress in a bathing suit or other revealing clothing while sitting in a blow-up hot tub indoors. Other streamers have also followed in this trend after seeing its success in the Just Chatting category. Amouranth also does ASMR and Just Dance streams.
