A new racing game has just been announced, combining the wacky item-based action of Mario Kart with the intensity of Forza Motorsport. The result is Disney Speedstorm, which has popular Disney and Pixar characters racing each other on themed race tracks inspired by popular Disney-created worlds.

Disney Speedstorm was first announced during the Nintendo Direct in February, but more information has since been revealed about this highly anticipated combat racing game.

When is Disney Speedstorm coming out?

Disney Speedstorm is coming out in 2022, but no exact date has been given yet. Right now it’s said that the Gameloft Barcelona creation will be coming sometime in the summer of 2022, but fans will have to wait for an official release date beyond that general approximation. More information on the game is likely to come in the months between now and its release date.

What platforms will Disney Speedstorm be on?

While Disney Speedstorm was initially announced in a Nintendo Direct, the racing game will be on more than just the Nintendo Switch. It’s also going to be available for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. Developers have additionally said that Disney Speedstorm will be cross-platform, meaning friends can compete against one another no matter what system they’re playing on. PC gamers may be able to race against their friends playing on Switch, Xbox and PlayStation users will be able to play together, and so on.

Disney Speedstorm will also have split-screen and co-op options, meaning you don’t have to play online in order to compete with friends locally.

Is Disney Speedstorm free to play?

Disney Speedstorm is currently advertised as being free-to-play at launch. There will be new seasons of content added regularly, each season including more characters from popular Disney and Pixar properties as well as new karts and tracks. The schedule for these seasons is not yet released.

What is Disney Speedstorm gameplay like?

Disney Speedstorm is looking to be very similar to Mario Kart. Like the Mario-based racing series, Disney Speedstorm will feature an array of colorful characters that all have their own unique strengths. For example, Mulan has explosive weapons and Mickey Mouse can move at great speeds. Each character will also have a unique special ability that gives them an upper hand.

Like Mario Kart, Disney Speedstorm will feature drifting and boosts. While beginners can enjoy racing around the track, this means there’s also an opportunity to master the gameplay at a higher level to consistently battle for first place.

It’s currently unclear if the karts themselves will provide various stats and abilities in Disney Speedstorm, as they do in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

What characters are in Disney Speedstorm?

A full list of characters has not been officially shared by developers at Gameloft and more will likely be added in upcoming seasons. But the trailers have still confirmed a few key members of the exciting Disney cast of racers.
