PlayStation Showcase 2023 has come and gone, and these are all of the announcements that came out during the big event.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater

Metal Gear: Solid Snake Eater is, for many fans, the most exciting title to be previewed at PlayStation Showcase 2023. It will be a remake of the hit classic game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, a 2004 release by Konami in the Metal Gear Solid series. Metal Gear Solid: Sneak Eater will be a modernization of the critically and fan-acclaimed installment in the adventures of Solid Snake.

This is a much-anticipated remake for many Metal Gear Solid fans, as this installment is what made many of them fall in love with Hideo Kojima’s dark-yet-ridiculous worlds and the gameplay of the series. Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater has no announced release date and will be available on the PlayStation 5.

Marathon

Halo inventor and Destiny developer Bungie announced a return to the world of gaming for one of its oldest IPs. Marathon was a 90s sci-fi shooter that evolved into several games developed by Bungie. Much of its sci-fi feel, focus on artificial intelligence, and futuristic worldbuilding paved the way for Bungie’s later smash hits of Halo and Destiny. Marathon was announced to be making a return to the gaming world at PlayStation Showcase 2023. It seems to bear all the hallmarks of Bungie’s previous neon cyberpunk sci-fi installments, with one key difference. This time, Marathon is an extraction shooter.

Bungie has talked extensively about its desire to make Marathon a player-driven, massively multiplayer extraction shooter. In the developer blog video, the Marathon developers talk about players’ actions permanently changing the world of Marathon forever. If a sci-fi Escape From Tarkov experience sounds like something you won’t be able to get enough of, swing by our article that breaks down every little detail, we could find about Marathon’s pending reboot.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape

Speaking of science fiction titles developed by Bungie, Destiny 2 also got some exciting news at PlayStation Showcase 2023. The Final Shape will be the next DLC released for Bungie’s hit massively multiplayer RPG shooter. The Final Shape trailer hints at some huge changes to the Destiny world, specifically the return of one much-beloved non-player character. The Destiny 2: The Final Shape trailer showed off the return of Cayde-6, the quick-witted Hunter Vanguard voiced by Nathan Fillion. In the trailer, Warlock Vanguard Ikora is seen talking to an apparently living version of Cayde-6. For the uninitiated, Cayde-6 died during the events of Destiny 2 Forspoken, and hasn’t been seen since. Cayde wields his signature, Ace of Spaces pistol, now reformed from shattered parts with a spectral glow.

Most popular fan theories have Cayde somehow being alive and inside of the Traveller, a partially-reformed ghost trapped within it. It’s unclear exactly how or why Cayde-6 is returning to crack more quips, but many Destiny players are overjoyed to have him back.

Street Fighter 6: Your Story

Street Fighter 6 is the next huge release on the radar of every FGC fan and fanatic. The trailer released for the upcoming installment in the Street Fight Franchise at PlayStation Showcase 2023 showed off the new World Tour mode. World Tour will allow Street Fighter fans to create their very own fighters and play as these avatars. World Tour seems to focus on a story mode in which the player’s character will fight their way through the SF roster. Customized characters will let Street Fighters fans design a martial art incarnation of themselves and brawl through the eclectic cast of Street Fighter personas.

It doesn’t show much sign of being a highly variable story experience. Instead, it’s Street Fighter fans’ best chance to fight against and alongside their favorite characters. The fighting game world is already more than ready for SF6 to drop, and this gives longtime fans yet another reason to be excited.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

The Marvel Spider-Man games from Insomniac Games have been a bit with superhero fans. Taking fans behind the mask of Peter Parker and Miles Morales, they explore the friendly neighborhood web slinger’s world in a way no other games have managed to accomplish. The trailer shows off fans’ first glimpse at the gameplay and story of Spider-Man 2 in action. The demo begins with mercenaries working for Kraven the Hunter, arriving at a suburban house hunting the Lizard. Instead, a Venom Symbiote-wielding Peter Parker bursts from beneath the stairs and dispatches them. Then the player switches to Miles Morales, tracking down more of Kraven’s Hunters arriving at a port-side fish market.

After the pair reconvene, the mutated Doctor Connors leads them on a race through the ports of New York City. Fans get a glimpse at how the Venom Symbiote is affecting Peter as they hunt after the Lizard in search of a cure for Harry Osborne’s mysterious illness. This trailer shows off all of the high-octane action that fans expect from Insomniac Games’ acclaimed Spider-Man series. The Venom Symbiote’s appearance does seem to herald a darker tone for Peter Parker, at least to begin the game.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Another classic cinematic action-adventure open-world game also got its first glimpses of gameplay at Playstation Showcase 2023, Assasin’s Creed Mirage. This version of Assassin’s Creed will follow Basim, a street thief-become-assassin in ninth-century Baghdad. This isn’t the first time fans have been acquainted with Basim Ibn-Ishaq, who was briefly introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Fans will follow Basim’s journey out of Baghdad and into the ranks of a mysterious order known as the Hidden Ones. The gameplay shows off all the flowy parkour, high-soaring action, and stylish kills that Assassin’s Creed is known for. Returning to the Middle East, Assassin’s Creed Mirage sees fans return to the medieval aesthetic that founded the games.

Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake was a cult hit paranormal action game centering around Alan Wake, a writer who finds his life torn apart by paranormal happenings. The sequel was given a much-anticipated release date at PlayStation Showcase 2023. Alan Wake will release on October 17 on PlayStation 5. The new gameplay trailer shows Alan Wake trapped in some nightmarish limbo, writing to FBI agents outside of the realm he’s trapped in. It also shows FBI agent Anderson, who appears to be a second playable protagonist.

From frightening jump scares to paranormal mysteries, Alan Wake 2 seems to be just like the original. For those wondering, yes, the iconic flashlight makes an appearance once more. If you’re feeling nostalgic for the first Alan Wake, everything previewed in the second seems similar.

Those are some of the biggest games announced and PlayStation Showcase 2023. For news on other titles like Helldivers 2, Final Fantasy XVI, and more, see the official announcement list.
