Affiliate marketing took the world by storm in the mid-1990s and early 2000s. It was unique and opened the door to potentially earning millions. This was one of the biggest ways for people to make money and drive traffic to their business, too.

It was an interesting concept, to say the least but affiliate marketing took a hit when regulators brought in new measures. As the internet expanded, so too did the demand for advertisement. It is easy to see why many overlook affiliate marketing today in favor of standard banner ads and direct marketing.

But affiliate marketing could still be the future of the iGaming industry. So, what does the future hold for iGaming, and what impact does affiliate marketing have over it?

Where it all began

iGaming and affiliate marketing are as robust as ever. While thousands want to understand how affiliate marketing works, it’s worth looking at how online casinos work because the demand has grown tremendously. Affiliate marketing aims to attract users to the product or site they advertise.

For instance, you see a banner ad on social media. It advertises an iGaming platform. You like the look of it, and click on the ad. You’re taken to the iGaming platform and encouraged to sign up.

That is how marketers make their money. However, the platform is also making money through these ads as visitors sign up and spend money there. iGaming platforms want to encourage more players and can do so with ads from partners.

Without affiliate marketing, it would be difficult to achieve this because the competition is so fierce. Pairing up with several affiliate marketers can boost traffic and visitor numbers. With offline competitors too, iGaming platforms use affiliate marketers to their advantage as it’s more cost-effective than PPC. Of course, the ads must provide value to the visitor.

A competitive environment

iGaming and sports betting platforms are in abundant supply online today. Everywhere you turn, there are new platforms and sites appearing and they are all vying for your attention. It’s great you have a competitive market, but at the same time, it creates a problem for those companies.

When the first affiliate marketers teamed up with iGaming platforms, they were basically banner farms. Ads were thrown around everywhere and anywhere, but there wasn’t any great content value. It created issues, such as keyword stuffing. In the early 2000s, keyword stuffing was clamped down and it rocked the industry.

Ads became more valuable in terms of the content they offered and helped to boost the industry, even the iGaming one. While there was an initial slump, the industry has bounced back and become stronger than before. Affiliate marketing now focuses on development and creating engaging content that offers visitors something of genuine value.

The impact on the iGaming industry

The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act effectively killed the online gambling market in the United States. It was a game-changer and online platforms focused their attention on the European markets to make their money.

Once-banned advertisements from affiliate marketers were greenlit and that has helped the industry bounce back to a stronger, more viable position. iGaming does still rely on affiliate marketing and the market in Europe is massive. It’s also a cost-effective way to drive traffic to those platforms.

A boost to both industries

iGaming and affiliate marketing have benefited from their partnership. Marketers can open new income streams and iGaming platforms are making money by attracting new customers.

Both industries have received a boost, and both have never been stronger. Of course, affiliate marketers don’t just need to focus on iGaming. It’s a major industry to be a part of and is incredibly popular. With the right content and ads, there is decent money to be made as an affiliate marketer.

The future of iGaming through affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing isn’t the first thing you think of when it comes to iGaming, but it has become a major part of the industry. It’s interesting on so many levels and iGaming’s future lies with affiliate marketing.

Platforms will need extra help to attract the customers and will use affiliate marketers to do just that. Of course, the content needs to hold value and offer readers something that makes them want to click on the ad.

A strong iGaming market

There is little doubt that iGaming will be around for the foreseeable future. It will also continue to attract users from around Europe because it’s convenient and a modern pastime. It’s interesting to see where this development goes and how it’ll adapt as the web and gambling industry changes. Affiliate marketing is the future of iGaming and can influence it in many ways too.
