Abed becomes first to reach 11,000 MMR, tops Dota 2 leaderboards
Abed “Abed” Azel L. Yusop is the first player to reach an MMR of 11,000. Once again, the Filipino player has made history by breaking the record for highest MMR in the history of Dota 2 and raised the bar on the Dota 2 leaderboards.
Abed became the first Dota 2 player to reach 10,000 MMR in June 2017, with that number long standing as the hallmark for success in Dota 2’s public matchmaking.
Despite a slew of shakeups to the ranked matchmaking experience, Abed has had little trouble staying atop the leaderboards. In June 2019 Abed successfully repeated this feat and became the first player to reach 10,000 MMR under Valve’s new system.
His success in casual games has also translated to the professional level. Abed is currently playing under the banner of Evil Geniuses and has helped them achieve a strong start to the 2019-2020 Dota Pro Circuit season. Unfortunately, he can’t play for Evil Geniuses in the regional leagues as he resides in the Philippines. Eric “Ryoya” Dong has been serving as a substitute for the North American powerhouse.
Abed’s last performance with Evil Geniuses was in Dota Summit 12. The team placed third in the last large-scale Dota 2 LAN tournament.
Though most of his time is spent in pubs right now, Abed recently played as a stand-in for TNC Predator during the grand finals of BTS Pro Series: Southeast Asia. Kim “Gabbi” Villafuerte was unable to play due to internet connectivity issues. The last-minute change might have been the culprit in TNC’s underperformance in that series, as Fnatic stomped them in 3-0 fashion.
Dota 2 pro players are finally breaking into the 10K MMR club
In the past few months, professional players separated from their teams have spent most of their time grinding their way up in the leaderboards. Online and regional leagues also filled the gap in the esports calendar.
This has resulted in a number of big names joining the previously exclusive 10K MMR club. More and more players are reaching the incredible milestone, with Abed’s teammates Andreas Franck “Cr1t-” Nielsen, Roman “RAMZES666” Kushnarev, and Artour “Arteezy” Babaev all joining the club with him.
Fans are eager to find out who’ll be the next Dota 2 superstar to reach the new 11,000 MMR record.
