Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu has celebrated his 1,000th kill in the LCK while playing against his former team KT Rolster.
Considered one of the best bottom laners in the Korean region, Deft has accomplished several milestones since the start of his career in early 2013.
Deft started with the since disbanded MVP Blue and then had a brief run with Samsung Blue. In 2014, Deft would have his first international experience when he signed a two-year contract with Edward Gaming in the LPL.
His time in China made him extremely popular in the region, and he received the highest number of MVP votes during his very first LPL split. Wearing EDG’s uniform, Deft claimed multiple LPL titles and went to compete in the 2015 Mid-Season Invitational. Against all odds, Edward Gaming and Deft made it to the finals and took down SK Telecom T1 for the first and only MSI title won by the Chinese team.
With EDG, Deft reached the 1,000 kills in pro play in August 2016. He’s the seventh players to accomplish this milestone in China.
Later in 2016, Deft returned home to join KT Rolster and a new dream team roster. This squad would have a bittersweet trajectory, as KT Rolster often fell just short of its goals despite the team’s abilities. This finally changed during the LCK Summer Split 2018 when KT Rolster achieved its first LCK title.
As a summer champion, Deft attended that year’s World Championship as a leading favorite. KT Rolster did make it to the quarterfinals, but lost there to eventual champion Invictus Gaming as Korea failed to field a top-four team at the World Championship.
After the 2018 offseason roster changes, Deft landed in Kingzone DragonX. The team struggled in the early weeks but largely thanks to Deft has managed to qualify for the playoffs.
Deft is the ninth player to reach 1,000 kills in the LCK. The dramatic kill was on KT Rolster top laner Hwang “Kingen” Seong-hoon.
