SK Gaming adds Lilipp as new support, Jesiz returns as coach

The start of the 2021 LEC Summer Split has been rough for SK Gaming, but now changes are being made to stabilize the team’s performance. 

After playing with head coach Jesse “Jesiz” Le as support for the first two weeks of the new split, SK is now promoting Phillip “Lilipp” Englert from SK Gaming Prime as the starting support from week 3. This still leaves Erik “Treatz” Wessén in the jungle for the time being, even though it’s expected that he will return to his originla support position at some point when a suitable jungler has been found for SK. 

The move is being made after an 0-5 start for SK during the first two weeks of the split. So far, SK has not been able to find any momentum on Summoner’s Rift. This isn’t a surprise taking the team’s roster issues into consideration. With Jesiz finally returning to his role as head coach, SK might be able to get more out of its practice and start to perform. 

Who is Lilipp in LoL?

Lilipp will be making his LEC debut after playing for SK Gaming Prime during the spring split. Lilipp was picked up from OP innogy as a promising talent. On SK Gaming Prime, Lilipp has showcased a big champion pool which will likely come in handy in the LEC. SK Gaming Prime is currently sitting at a solid 5-2 record in the German Prime League, so Lilipp should enter the LEC with a lot of confidence. 

Even though Lilipp will likely be a big help for SK in the LEC, it’s still expected that the team will need time to find a better foothold. It is expected that the roster will continue to see growing pains in the bot lane with Lilipp coming in to play with young bot laner Jean “Jezu” Massol. Due to the inexperience in the bottom lane, it will be more crucial than ever that Treatz performs in the jungle despite his being very new in the role and still being expected to transition back to support in the future. 

With the right shot calling from Treatz, there’s a chance that SK can finally pick up its first win and start to turn things around. For week 3, SK will face off against MAD Lions and Excel so it won’t be easy. The biggest chance for a win will likely be against Excel, who hasn’t had a brilliant start to the split either. 

Lilipp will make his LEC debut against MAD Lions on Friday June 25. 

Who plays for SK Gaming in the LEC? 

SK Gaming has made quite a few changes for the 2021 LEC Summer Split, some of which haven’t seemed to work out for the team. With Treatz still playing temporarily in the jungle, it’s likely that SK will make more roster swaps throughout the summer split.
