Man drops over $240,000 to get first level 5,000 Steam account
Leveling up on Steam isn't cheap, but this gamer from Qatar has gone all-out to become the owner of the highest-level Steam account in the world.
Steam is a great platform to collect all your games in one place and enjoy them, but a select few players like to spend tons of hours collecting cards in order to climb the Steam level ladder. It's a whole different game unto itself, and a famous Qatari gamer with the handle St4ck is paying to win it. According to Steamladder, St4ck has managed to hit level 5,000 on Steam, which is the highest in the world by a significant margin.
Levels on Steam depend highly on the player's account XP. XP can be earned through various tasks, the main one being badge crafting. After accumulating enough XP the account levels up, with the amount of XP required to level up increasing over time.
After a point it becomes either very difficult and very expensive to earn levels, but the person who is reportedly a member of the Qatari royal family seems to have the money and motivation. To achieve level 5,000, St4ck has spent $242,881.75, according to Steamladder. He has managed to rack up 125,266,337 XP, which is not a small amount since it requires 6,500 cards to garner this XP.
The new numbers bolster his worth even more, which was already pretty high due to his 4,736 Games worth around $37,630.34. The numbers imply that st4ck is currently the owner of the most expensive Steam account in the world.
St4ck didn't rack up these numbers in one day. St4ck is an old Counter-Strike: Global Offensive player and has over 6,000 hours on the shooter and has long had one of the highest-level Steam accounts, holding the record for a long while. He was briefly displaced by another Steam user, Magic, who is currently level 3,913 on Steam. Now at level 5,000, it's unlikely any other player will be able to beat him anytime soon.
Who has the most expensive Steam account?
In 2021, St4ck has the most expensive Steam account, worth over $279,114. While many players boost their account's worth by buying overpriced games or items, st4ck took a different route and spent his money on trading cards to become the most expensive Steam account owner in 2021.
