Aphelios might be returning to meta in upcoming LoL patch 11.12

Reading time: 2 min

League of Legends patch 11.12 is right around the corner with severe changes to one of the most controversial marksmen, Aphelios.

The upcoming patch might be small with changes, but some of them still have the potential to change the meta in some aspects. In the recent patch preview by gameplay design director Mark “Scuffy” Yetter, a big wave of changes were presented to Aphelios. The patch will also tone down some strong picks such as Kai’Sa, Gnar, and Renekton.

Aphelios to receive a big buff for LoL patch 11.12

The champion to receive the most changes in the upcoming patch is Aphelios. With a lot to keep track of, the overall changes will be buffs for the struggling marksman. Aphelios is currently the worst marksman by win rate in the game, sitting at a 46.16% win rate in Platinum rank and higher.

After dominating the game after his release, Aphalios has taken a step back while marksmen like Kai’Sa, Jinx, and Tristana have been in focus. Now, it might be time for the Weapon of the Faithful to return, with Riot buffing his base stats while adjusting Severum (Q) and Crescendum (Q).

The base stats will give Aphelios some more early-game strength, as his magic resistance and attack damage per level will see an increase. The current state of Aphelios makes him fairly weak in the early game while being out-scaled by several other marksmen in the long run. His scaling problem will be handled by adding more damage to Severum in the later stages, which might be enough for Aphelios to keep up with other hyper carries.

Kai'Sa

Kai’Sa, Varus nerfed for LoL patch 11.12

Riot will be making it easier for Aphelios to enter the meta again, as Kai’Sa and Varus will be hit with the nerf hammer. Kai’Sa has recently been one of the strongest marksmen in the game, as players dominated games with her at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational. To tone her down, Riot will be increasing the cooldown on Icathian Rain (Q) by two seconds in the early game.

Furthermore, Varus will have his bonus damage on Blighted Quiver (W) reduced significantly in the late game. The change to Varus might force players to opt even more into poke builds, as his on-hit damage will certainly take a hit.

When is LoL patch 11.12 released?

LoL patch 11.12 will be on the Public Beta Environment (PBE) for testing in the upcoming days. When tested by the players, Riot has the chance to make final adjustments before the patch is released on the live servers on Wednesday, June 9.
