Controversial hot tub streamer and OnlyFans model Kaitlyn “Amouranth” Siragusa lashed out at Twitch after the platform indefinitely suspended ads on her channel without any prior warning.

According to Amouranth, Twitch never reached out to her or gave her a warning before pulling her ability to use Twitch ads. She was not given a reason for the decision, but she believes it was due to her recent hot tub streams. Twitch has a Terms of Service that states streamers can only wear bikinis when in a hot tub or pool, which is why many female streamers have started sitting in inflatable pools during live broadcasts, creating the polarizing “hot tub meta.”

“There is no known policy for what results in a streamer being put on this blacklist. With characteristic opacity, the only thing Twitch made clear is that it is unclear whether or when my account can be reinstated,” Amouranth said.

Amouranth to lose half a million a year in ad revenue

Amouranth revealed on Reddit that she receives about $40,000 a month from ad revenue on Twitch. That means Amouranth could make about $480,000 a year from ads alone. While Amouranth can make money in other ways, including paid subscriptions, donations, sponsored streams, and OnlyFans, the loss of advertising is a big blow to her income.

Even though not everybody is a fan of the hot tub meta, many streamers are concerned with Twitch’s actions and what it may mean for other streamers on the platform in the future.

Asmongold, Destiny speak out against Twitch following Amouranth ad ban

World of Warcraft streamer Zack “Asmongold” is not one to shy away from sharing his opinion. So he didn’t hold back after Twitch suspended Amouranth’s ads without warning. He said that the broadcast platform “dropped the ball and fucked up” by doing this to Amouranth, if her tweets are to be believed.

“She’s a content creator. She streams for 12 hours a day. They should at least do her the courtesy of communicating with her. Why is it that they didn’t just come over and say ‘stop doing this or we’re going to demonetize you?’ Why is that not a strategy?” Asmongold said.

Asmongold explained that people may not like her content or the ever-growing hot tub meta on Twitch. But that doesn’t mean what Amouranth has said regarding the issue is wrong.

Political streamer Steven “Destiny” Bonnell was also quite outspoken about Twitch’s actions. In the fall of 2020, Destiny lost his status as a Twitch partner for “promoting violence” during the Black Lives Matter protests. He has since been quite vocal about many other issues regarding politics and Twitch. His most recent focus has been Amouranth’s channel.

“It’s really weird that you can lose your ad revenue with no contact,” Destiny said. “I’m 95% sure it was a violation of my contract because I read through it a few times when we were fighting over things. I’m supposed to have time to remedy breaches. Or they have to inform you if they’re cutting off the contract. Like it has to be a written statement why. They can’t just say you broke it.”

Destiny added that Twitch is obligated to provide ad revenue and services, according to Twitch’s contracts.

While the majority of the streaming community is not a fan of the hot tub meta for a variety of reasons, it seems that streamers dislike Twitch even more and thus have taken Amouranth’s side. Twitch has been very inconsistent and has lacked transparency when it comes to its punishments and other related decisions, making streamers wary of the platform.
