With only a few weeks before the 2021 LCS Summer Split kicks off, Golden Guardians has presented several roster changes.

After a poor spring split, Golden Guardians is making some changes to make a better showing in the last split of the year. Golden Guardians will be promoting support Jonathan “Chime” Pomponio from the academy roster while signing Colin “Solo” Earnest as the starting top laner. Solo’s last appearance in the LCS was in January when he helped out CLG for a couple of games. Now, the veteran will be back once again and look to lead the young Golden Guardians squad.

Golden Guardians finished the spring split in 10th place after struggling to find any sort of consistency. This resulted in a 3-15 record and a lot to think about in the mid-season break. Going into the season, Golden Guardians put a lot of focus on young talent as one of the teams with the most rookies going into the split.

Even though the young team didn’t find success instantly, Golden Guardians will still be keeping young talents like mid laner Nicholas “Ablazeolive” Abbott and jungler Ethan “Iconic” Wilkinson. While Golden Guardians won’t be a contender for the trophy, there is a chance that they could go for a spot in the playoffs.

Golden Guardians demote Niles, Newbie to academy

By picking up Solo for the top lane, Golden Guardians will gain a natural leader with years of experience in the LCS. This also means that the young Aiden “Niles” Tidwell and Leandro “Newbie” Marcos will move down to the academy team, where the whole squad will be fighting to make it into the LCS Proving Grounds.

With two players with recent LCS experience, Golden Guardians Academy suddenly seems a lot stronger than the last split and will likely be a hard team to deal with. This was needed after the academy teams failed to win the 2021 LCS Proving Grounds Spring, where No Org took the trophy.

The 2021 LCS Summer Split kicks off on June 4.
