Long-time Astralis star Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz has been transferred to Ninjas In Pyjamas on a three-year contract.

After more than five years in an Astralis jersey, dev1ce will be seeking new opportunities at NiP. The transfer happens after some poor performances by Astralis during 2021, who are currently sitting without a trophy for this year. The transfer is a result of a personal request from dev1ce, according to an announcement made by Astralis Group earlier in the day.

dev1ce has reportedly expressed a wish to work out of Stockholm while still having a team and organization around him. dev1ce is currently living in Stockholm and has been traveling back and forth to Copenhagen recently where the Astralis Group headquarters is located. This has likely meant even more remote practice from the Danish star over the past year, with travel restrictions and other circumstances having a big impact on him.

“Astralis has been such a big part of my life, the team, and the organization, and I say goodbye to a bunch of awesome teammates and great people in the organization,” dev1ce said

dev1ce leaves Astralis, Bubzkji steps into roster

Despite DreamHack Masters coming up on April 29, dev1ce has already played his last match in the Astralis jersey. For that tournament, Astralis will field Lucas “Bubzkji” Andersen on its roster. While Bubzkji has been a part of Astralis since July last year, he hasn’t gotten that much playing time. Without dev1ce on the team, Bubzkji will have plenty of options to prove himself, though it will be hard to fill the shoes of the departing star player.

After years spent at Astralis, dev1ce has accomplished more than most players ever will. As one of the founding players of Astralis in 2016, dev1ce has been a part of the journey all the way, with a total of four major trophies and a whopping 18 MVP awards. dev1ce has also been represented at the top of the HLTV top-20 player rankings since 2014, with a total of five top-three finishes to his name.

On NiP, dev1ce will play alongside talented players such as Fredrik “REZ” Sterner, Nicolas “Plopski” Zamora in what looks like a promising team. It seems that dev1ce will be communicating with the team in Swedish, making him a solid addition to the team’s communications despite his being Danish.

“I’ve lived in Sweden for some time now, speaking the language and I’m really hyped about this young and exciting NIP project,” dev1ce said.

NiP and dev1ce are expected to play the next match at Flashpoint 3 starting May 10.
