Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children plot summary
Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children picks up two years after the conclusion of the original Final Fantasy 7’s story. It’s revealed that while Cloud and the team were successful in saving the world from Sephiroth, the Mako energy released by the planet resulted in a deadly plague named Geostigma that has ravaged the rebuilt city of Midgar, Edge.
Cloud is suffering from Geostigma as well, but is summoned by Tifa to visit Rufus Shinra, who survived the Diamond Weapon’s attack on Midgar. It’s revealed by Rufus that a number of individuals named Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz that have mysterious ties to Sephiroth have obtained a piece of Jenova and are looking to resurrect him.
Though Cloud initially refuses to help Rufus, he’s forced into action when the trio attack Edge and kidnap Barett’s daughter, Marlene. This forces Cloud and the rest of the surviving cast of Final Fantasy 7 into action.
Kadaj, Yazoo, and Loz wreak havoc across Edge and succeed in bringing Sephiroth back to life. Sephiroth reveals that he was behind Geostigma and was hoping to kill enough people with it to flood the lifestream with people under his control and become one with the planet. Cloud defeats him and Aerith’s spirit returns to create a cure for Geostigma.
