The best teams from each region will soon compete at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational in Reykjavík, Iceland. Here are all the qualified teams and the schedule for the tournament.

With the spring playoffs being concluded throughout all of the biggest League of Legends regions, teams are starting to qualify for the upcoming MSI. Only the best team from each region will be able to participate, making the race for a spot as hard as it can be. It also means that 12 domestic champions will clash in Iceland when the event kicks off, giving fans the first look at the region’s international strength in 2021.

Here are the teams that have qualified for the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational.

All teams participating at the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational

The 12 participants at MSI are decided through the four major regions and the eight wildcard regions. All regions will send a single representative each, which means that only regional champions will compete at MSI.

With only the winner of each region participating, it will be crucial for any region to be on point during the tournament. Unlike the World Championship, each region will only have a single team to rely on. MAD Lions from the LEC will look to defend the title for Europe, won previously by G2 Esports. The LCK and LPL will send scary teams in top form. Besides the favorites, the tournament structure allows underdogs to perform and go far in the tournament, so anything can happen.

The 2021 Mid-Season Invitational teams:

  • DWG KIA (LCK)
  • MAD Lions (LEC)
  • Cloud9 (LCS)
  • Royal Never Give Up (LPL)
  • DetonatioN FocusMe (LJL)
  • Pentanet.GG (LCO)
  • Infinity Esports (LLA)
  • Unicorns of Love (LCL)
  • Istanbul Wildcats (TCL)
  • PSG Talon (PCS)
  • GAM Esports (VCS)
  • paiN Gaming (CBLOL)

As to recent news, the VCS representative GAM Esports won’t be able to attend the event due to travel ristrictions.

2021 Mid-Season Invitational format

This year’s MSI format will consist of a group stage in which all teams have been seeded into three groups total. In each group, four teams will compete in a double round-robin with all matches being best-of-one. The top two from each group will advance to the Rumble stage, where the six advancing teams will fight in another double round-robin. The top four of the Rumble stage will advance to the knockout stage, where all matches are best-of-five and the winner will be crowned.

When is the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational?

The 2021 Mid-Season Invitational will kick off on May 6 and run through May 22, when the grand final is scheduled to take place. The tournament will be the first international event of the 2021 competitive LoL calendar and should be a good indicator of the strength between all 12 regions. The defending champions from 2019, G2 Esports, won’t be at the tournament after losing in the LEC playoffs. This means that a new champion will be crowned.
