Blizzard’s annual BlizzCon event left Anaheim behind and went online this year, but that doesn’t mean the developer didn’t have big release news for the next game in the Diablo franchise.

After the complete disaster that was Activision Blizzard’s reveal of mobile game Diablo Immortals, this year’s BlizzCon focused on what the developer planned to bring to its PC and console fans. Those fans got what they wanted with this year with a more detailed BlizzCon reveal of Diablo 4.

When is Diablo 4’s release date?

While fans didn’t get an exact date for Diablo 4, they did get an answer to when the anticipated game won’t release. Blizzard told attendees that Diablo 4 won’t be out in 2021, counter to what a report from Kotaku saying that the game would release sometime later this year. Blizzard has been doing quarterly development blogs since the game’s original reveal, but this year saw an inside look at two of the game’s classes and revealed the game’s likely boss, Lilith, the daughter of Diablo 2 antagonist Mephisto.

Diablo 4 see the return of the Druid and adds Rogues to class list

Blizzard is notorious for taking it time in releasing its flagship titles, and it even delayed the release of World of Warcraft expansion Shadowlands by several months last year. It’s likely that the team working on Diablo 4 was impacted by last year’s delays as well. But despite not getting an answer on the game’s release date, fans did get an awful lot of information about Diablo 4.

The game will include classic Diablo class the Druid, as well as a new class in Rogues, who look an awful lot like Diablo 3’s Demon Hunters.

Diablo 4 should be a commercial hit whenever it finally releases, but that wasn’t all the Diablo news at this year’s Blizzcon.

Classic Diablo 2 returns Diablo 2: Resurrected remaster

The studio also announced Diablo 2: Resurrected, an overhauled and remastered version of the classic hack-and-slash. The remaster seems further along than Diablo 4, with preorders live and an upcoming technical alpha that players can opt in to on the game’s splash page.

Although it seems like there might be quite a wait yet for Diablo 4, Blizzard’s current lineup should have enough for fans to enjoy until its release. Between Diablo 2’s remake, Shadowland’s patch 9.1, the upcoming addition of The Burning Crusade to World of Warcraft: Classic, Hearthstone: Forged in the Barrens, and Overwatch 2, Blizzard fans are going to need a bigger hard drive.
