SK Telecom T1 secured round two of 2019’s Telecom War with a victory over KT Rolster.
SKT and KT are having very different seasons. While the former world champions at SK Telecom T1 are thriving, KT Rolster is close to the relegation tournament.
This round of the Telecom War was defined by KT’s passiveness and SKT’s superior drafting. KT was able to take game one, but the retaliation from SKT was merciless.
In the second game, the weight of the match was on the shoulders of KT mid laner Gwak “BDD” Bo-seong on Yasuo. KT focused efforts around the mid lane and aggressed onto Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok.
That strategy might’ve been enough against the previous iterations of SKT, but it proved to be useless against the newly improved roster. While BDD tried to carry his team, the rest of SKT destroyed the side lanes and claimed the victory in game two.
In game three, SKT drafted Vladimir in the bot lane and Fiora as a counter pick against Aatrox in the top lane. The set had a slow start it soon became evident that SKT had the upper hand.
An early roam from support Cho “Mata” Se-hyeong gave two kills to SKT and set the tone for the rest of the series.
Kim “Khan” Dong-ha was unstoppable in the top lane. He grew an advantage that allowed him to split push without opposition as the game progressed.
KT caught Faker out of position several times, but it wasn’t enough to stop SKT’s building momentum. Even when SK Telecom T1 went for greedy plays, KT was unable to punish SKT and defend its nexus. SKT secured a baron buff and went on for the win.
KT is facing KINGZONE DragonX and Jin Air next, and these are two must-win matches if the team wishes to avoid the Summer Promotion tournament.
