Michael "shroud" Grzesiek is on the road to recovery.
The popular streamer and former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive pro is out of the hospital and already back to streaming. He announced the news on Twitter.
Initially, it seemed like Shroud was going to be booked for a lengthy hospital stay. Though his surgery was successful, a course of antibiotics was set to extend his stay under doctor supervision. However, three hours later he made the surprise reveal that he was being discharged and would return to action shortly thereafter. “JK we getting discharged today,” Shroud said. “Was told to keep my fingers n shoulder moving as much as possible... So I guess we're gaming?”
He returned to streaming the next day and though he initially indicated that he was going to do some live vlogging instead of gaming, when the camera turned on and his PC booted he just couldn’t help himself. By night’s end he was tearing it up in Apex Legends.
It’s a good end to what has been a wild week for the former Cloud9 support.
Though it started on a high note with Shroud hitting 100,000 subscribers on Twitch, it took a nasty turn when he revealed he was involved in a scooter accident on March 11. Details were initially vague, but it soon became obvious things were serious when he stated that he was injured and would require surgery on his left arm as a result of the accident.
Former NRG Esports CS:GO player Justin "Just9n" Ortiz kept fans updated on Shroud's conditiona and didn't sugar coat the severity of his injuries. “He landed on his elbow, put a huge hole in his elbow,” Just9n said on his Twitch channel. “And from what I understand, he tore a ligament and removed … a piece of bone from his elbow.”
During his stream, Shroud was wearing a large cast on his left arm which nearly reached his shoulder. His doctors encouraged him to get as much work in with his hands and shoulder, but he quipped on stream that moving his arm was difficult because of how heavy his cast was. While he seems to be on the road to recovery, there is no question that he was in a scary situation and has some work ahead of him.
Despite being in a precarious situation, Shroud seemed to be in good spirits as he exchanged banter with fans on his stream and with some of his former teammates on Twitter.
