Rogue end the regular LEC split on a good note with win over Fnatic

Rogue dominated the last match of the 2021 LEC Spring regular split by taking down Fnatic and throwing them out of the top four.

Going into the match, Rogue didn’t have a whole lot to play for after G2 Esports secured first place with a win against SK Gaming. The G2 victory locked in Rogue for second place, which didn’t give them more than honor to play for against Fnatic. On the other side, Fnatic still had the chance to lock in fourth place for the regular split, but a win was necessary. This was Fnatic’s chance to avoid a shocking 0-3 weekend before heading into the playoffs. 

Right from the draft, it was clear that Rogue wanted to play through scaling like they are known for but with a little twist in the bot lane as support Adrian “Trymbi” Trybus was picked Cho’Gath. For Fnatic, the focus was put on winning lanes with the hopes of accelerating a lead through the early game. So far this week, Fnatic hasn’t succeeded with that play style but taking on Rogue in the scaling game is usually not wise either. 

While Fnatic had to get ahead in the laning phase to stand a real chance, that was not the case. After just four minutes, Rogue managed to turn a dive in the bot lane that put Fnatic in an early spot of desperation. 

Following the failed dive, Fnatic started to get desperate to make plays and get a lead. Despite several attempts of getting kills, Fnatic didn’t execute properly and Rogue was ready to punish that. After 13 minutes, Rogue had a 4,000 gold lead after a heroic play from top laner Andrei “Odoamne” Pascu on Gnar.

The play from Odoamne seemed like a game-winning play for Rogue. Fnatic was suddenly in a spot where it would take a miracle to come back and that miracle never happened. Even though Fnatic didn’t go down without a fight, Rogue was simply too far ahead. 

Rogue ended the game after 32 minutes in a one-sided victory to close out the regular split. Rogue will head into the playoffs in the upper bracket and is looking like a real contender for the trophy. For Fnatic, the team will have to settle with a spot outside of the top four for the first time since 2016. 

The 2021 LEC Spring Split playoffs kick off on March 26.

After going to the 2020 World Championship, Rogue is looking to perform even better in 2021. With changes for support and top lane, Rogue has a stable lineup in the 2021 LEC season with the potential to go all the way for a trophy.
