Alphari is statistically dominating the top lane after LCS week 5

Reading time: 4 min

Team Liquid top laner Barney “Alphari” Morris is crushing his competition in the top lane during the 2021 LCS Spring Season.

As the first LCS spring season is coming to a close, it’s time for the defending LCS Lock In champions Team Liquid to put in a final effort to finish at the top of the standings. After winning the LCS Lock In, Team Liquid has been inconsistent and not able to perform at the highest level.

The player who is keeping them in contention for the top positions is mainly Alphari, who is crushing it in the top lane statistically. Even against Cloud9 in the recent week, Alphari was the deciding factor as Team Liquid got away with an important victory.

Alphari is dominating top lane opposition in LCS 2021

Most fans who knew Alphari from his time in the LEC were already aware that this guy is a beast, especially during the laning phase. Back on Origen in 2020, Alphari was also topping many statistics, even though Origen was placed at the bottom of the league. On an individual level, Alphari is always reliable and will win his lane in most cases even without a lot of jungle attention.

The same goes for his performance after joining Team Liquid for 2021 in the LCS. While Team Liquid is moving into week 6 without locking a playoffs spot yet, Alphari has been a rock for the team and will look to clinch the last few victories before the playoffs start. Team Liquid will be up against Dignitas, Evil Geniuses, and 100 Thieves, which are three matchups where the top lane could be a big focus point.

On paper, Alphari is either the best or top two in the most important statistics among all top laners in the league. Top laners like Evil Geniuses Jeong “Impact” Eon-young and 100 Thieves’ Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho are trying to keep up, but it’s clear that a new top-lane sheriff is in town. Here’s a look at some of Alphari’s stats, compared to other top laners in the LCS.

  • 1st average damage to champions per minute (512 damage)
  • 1st in average gold difference at 10 minutes (412 gold)
  • 1st in average creep score differential at 10 minutes (12.8 CS)
  • 2nd in total kills (49 kills)
  • 2nd in KDA ratio (6.1 KDA)
  • 2nd lowest total deaths (24 deaths)

It’s clear that Alphari is a terror in the top lane and there is no doubt at this point in time that he should be considered the best top laner in the LCS. To capitalize on this, the rest of Team Liquid will have to step up and fix the problems that create inconsistency.

On the last day of LCS week 5, Team Liquid was taken down by the bottom team CLG, right after beating the top team Cloud9 the day before. This is a clear indicator that Team Liquid as a team still has things to work on and can’t just play off of individual skill. When the playoffs hit, Team Liquid has to be on point to not be punished in a best-of-five format.

Team Liquid will play its next game on Match 12 against Dignitas.

Who is Alphari?

Alphari is a 21-year-old top laner from the United Kingdom. He started his career all the way back in 2015 on several smaller European teams. In 2016, Alphari got the chance to play for Misfits Gaming in the European Challenger Series, which led to a spot in the EU LCS in 2017. Since then, Alphari has been playing at the highest level in Europe, but without making it all the way to the top.

In 2020, Alphari was considered one of the best top laners in Europe despite finishing last place during the 2020 LEC Summer Split with Origen. The bottom-placed finish didn’t scare teams away, as Alphari was a coveted free agent in the offseason and ultimately ended up on Team Liquid.
