G2 Esports’ bot lane pulled off an innovative combo on Sion and Senna in their game against Schalke 04 in the 2021 LEC Spring Split.

The combo was never seen before in professional play up until now. And if it wasn’t for the bot lane of Martin “Rekkles” Larsson and Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle pulling it off twice, some would think that it was completely coincidental. The combo that Rekkles and Mikyx managed to pull off was by using Senna’s Last Embrace (W) on an enemy minion, followed up by Mikyx pushing the minion towards the opponent with Sion’s Roar of the Slayer (E).

Timing this combo correctly will root up all enemies surrounded by the minion that is pushed as Senna’s Last Embrace detonates. G2 pulled it off for the first time after 15 minutes of the game against Schalke 04, which ended up causing Schalke’s bot laner Matúš “Neon” Jakubčík to burn his Flash and barely get away.

After hitting the combo through this Senna and Sion interaction, it was clear that a whole new way of playing the two together had been discovered. Playing Senna plus Sion in the bot lane isn’t something new, as Sion can farm up while Senna collects souls through the fasting-Senna strategy. What is new though, is the combo pulled off by Rekkles and Mikyx which was later on proved to be something the new duo has been practicing.

Only seven minutes after the first play, G2 pulls off the combo once more. This time it was in the mid lane as G2 was starting to build up its lead, and just like last time, it was Neon who was targeted. This time, the combo sentenced death for Neon and will likely be remembered as one of the most innovative kills of the 2021 season so far. This combo alone wasn’t the deciding factor of the game but definitely helped Rekkles get a big lead against Neon.

By showcasing this combo on one of the biggest stages in the world, it’s likely that the Senna and Sion duo will become heavier prioritized in the future. One thing is for sure, many duo partners are going to try this out in solo queue to see if they can pull off the “Rekkles and Mikyx combo.”

G2 will play its next LEC game on February 26 against Vitality.

What role is Senna in LoL?

Senna is a marksman who can be played in both the bot lane and support position. Senna is the first supportive marksman that Riot has created and is a good mix of damage and utility. This is why Senna can work in both roles, even though she is most often seen as an ADC.

Is Sion good in LoL?

Sion is a fairly unorthodox pick both for the top lane and support position. The tanky juggernaut is one of the oldest champions in League of Legends and has a long history on the competitive stage. For solo queue, Sion is only played in the top lane as of patch 11.4. Up top, Sion is sitting at a solid 51.12% win rate, over almost 16,000 games tracked. This makes Sion a viable pick in solo queue but not necessarily the strongest option.
