Fortnite and Street Fighter collab brings Ryu, Chun-Li skins
Fortnite Episode 2 Chapter 5 has seen the game transformed into what has been accurately described as a “pop culture singularity.” Fortnite has drawn in and absorbed many of the hottest things in movies, television, and video games.
With Fortnite’s 15th season already adding Kratos from God of War, the Master Chief from Halo, the main character of The Mandalorian, Daryl and Michonne from The Walking Dead, and the T-800 from The Terminator, it was hard to guess who might be added next. Fans now have an answer.
Popular Street Fighter characters Ryu and Chun-Li are coming to Fortnite. The news was revealed with a short teaser trailer showing Jonesy appearing in a Street Fighter 2 arcade cabinet. He drops in at the start of a match between the two characters and teleports them into the world of Fortnite, resulting in a “Double KO.”
Chun-Li and Ryu don’t quite fit the motif of the Zero Point event. The chapter has largely revolved around hunters, with the Mandalorian being a bounty Hunter, the T-800 hunting the Connor family, and so on.
Some fans did gripe that the Street Fighter characters didn’t really resemble their counterparts from the fighting games and it's easy to spot the differences between their Street Fighter V models and their Fortnite skins. The characters were still generally well-received, with fighting game fans joking that Marvel vs. Capcom 4 had become a reality with Ryu and Chun-Li finding themselves in the same game as the heroes from the previous Marvel Comics events.
Alongside the skins of Ryu and Chun-Li came a number of other cosmetics including an E. Honda glider and two pickaxes. Many of the extras in the bundle pay homage to the long histories of the characters.
The Ryu skin is bundled alongside a training bag back bling, a reference to his Street Fighter 3 intro. There are also two new emotes, based on Chun-Li’s Hoyokusen super move and Ryu’s Shoryuken. There are also extra styles based on bearded Ryu from Street Fighter V, and young Chun-Li from Street Fighter Alpha.
Perhaps the best part is the loading screen for the pair drawn in the signature Capcom style by Toshiaki “Shinkiro” Mori, which shows Ryu and Chun-Li alongside some of Fortnite’s more distinctive characters.
How much do the Street Fighter skins cost in Fortnite?
The Ryu and Chun-Li bundle can be purchased for 3,200 V-Bucks, though it is currently on sale for 2,200.
