Nukeduck takes break from competitive LoL, MagiFelix to replace

Reading time: 3 min

Astralis’ mid laner Erlend “Nukeduck” Holm is officially taking a break from competitive League of Legends due to personal reasons.

The Norwegian veteran will be replaced by former Fnatic Rising mid laner Felix “MagiFelix” Boström for the time being, on a contract that runs until March 31. It’s unknown when Nukeduck will return to the team. For now, MagiFelix will take his place in the upcoming LEC matches starting with Schalke 04 on February 12.

MagiFelix has a lot of experience from the European regional scene and was Fnatic’s substitute for the 2020 World Championship. MagiFelix hasn’t been playing on the biggest stage for a long time, so getting a chance to play for Astralis in the LEC will be great for the young Swede.

MagiFelix left Fnatic in November 2020 and has since then been without a team. He played his last official match in August 2020 in the 2020 European Masters Summer event.

According to Astralis, MagiFelix has already joined up with the team in Copenhagen and is preparing for the upcoming LEC weekend. Besides Schalke 04, Astralis will go up against Misfits Gaming in the upcoming LEC week.

Astralis has had a rough start to the 2021 LEC season

Nukeduck taking a break happens after a rough start for Astralis in the 2021 LEC Spring Split. The Danish organization is sitting at a 1-6 record after the first three weeks, placing them at a shared ninth place with Team Vitality.

Astralis entered the season with a completely revamped roster, with a focus on young talent from the secondary European leagues. With players such as Nikolay “Zanzarah” and Akatov in the jungle and Jesper “Jeskla” Strömberg in bot, Astralis has a lot of potential to develop as a team. Nukeduck was kept as the experienced player in the mid lane, and without him, Astralis might need even more time to gel.

With that said, MagiFelix could bring in some new energy to the team and a high individual level. MagiFelix is known for theorizing solo queues and is without a doubt a mechanical talent. If he can perform under pressure in a competitive environment, Astralis might be able to ramp up over the next few weeks.

MagiFelix

Who is MagiFelix?

MagiFelix is a 20-year-old mid laner from Sweden. He started his professional career in 2016 when he joined EURONICS Gaming. MagiFelix entered the scene with a great reputation from solo queue, as one of the biggest European talents of the time.

MagiFelix would later join Fnatic Academy in 2019, which was the start of his two-year stay with the organization. As of 2020, MagiFelix is finally getting a real shot at performing in the LEC, after he didn’t succeed with that on Fnatic.

What is the Astralis 2021 LEC roster?

With Nukeduck taking a break, the Astralis LEC roster is:

  • Top – Matti “WhiteKnight” Sormunen
  • Jungle – Nikolay “Zanzarah” Akatov
  • Mid – Felix “MagiFelix” Boström
  • Bot – Jesper “Jeskla” Strömberg
  • Support – Hampus “promisq” Abrahamsson
