League client still a problem, causes Doublelift to lose promo

Peng "Doublelift" Yiliang had some very bad luck during a promo match that was set to be streamed live, highlighting how Riot Games' League of Legends client continues to have issues for many users.

The retired LCS veteran began queuing after seeing he was up for a promotion series to Master. He accepted a match, but soon realized that his League of Legends client was having issues. The client became stuck on the same screen for an excruciatingly long time before crashing completely.

Doublelift restarted the client and then found himself back at the champion select screen. But his hope was dashed immediately when the ADC noticed problems with his client's view. Then he was booted out once again and given a temporary queue ban.

Doublelift was stunned, immediately blaming Riot for the situation. Usually match losses that are caused by server problems are not counted as promotion matches, but it's unclear how this client crash Doublelift experienced got past so many of Riot's safeguards.

"Wait, what? I lost a promo match because the client is fucking dog shit. Alright, whatever. Unbelievable... I can't fucking believe it," Doublelift ranted.

Riot fans still upset about LoL client problems

League of Legends overhauled their client at the start of the 2017 season. But over the past four years, LoL players have consistently found problems with the client that have driven them crazy. Near the start of 2020, Riot developers even noted that the client was "not in great shape" and had too many bugs, freezes, and opportunities for lag.

Riot introduced the client cleanup campaign. It was initially a six-month project but has gone on through more than a year of continuous work. It's clear that there's still a lot of issues remaining after seeing Doublelift's crash. This includes messages popping up erroneously and poor communication options, among many other problems.
