The incredible s1mple stat that no one is talking about
When the dust settled after the BLAST Global Final, fans had already helped Astralis and Natus Vincere make history. The match holds the record for highest viewer count for a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive match in history. But there was more, as Na`Vi star Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev put up dominant performances that revealed a hidden statistic that is much more impressive than the number of BLAST viewers.
Even though s1mple took home the top spot in last week's CSGO player rankings over Team Vitality’s Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut, many leaderboards had placed s1mple in the number-two spot heading into CSGO’s 2021 season. After his performance during BLAST's Global Finals, it seems as though the best player in CSGO didn't appreciate that.
s1mple led BLAST players in 13 categories
Possibly in response to his second-place ranking, s1mple brought teams at the Global Finals to their knees in overpowering fashion. By the end of Na`Vi’s incredibly short grand finals match against Astralis, s1mple was at the top of all participating players in a total of 13 different statistical categories:
- Rating: 1.44 average total rating
- Total Kills: 229 total kills
- Total AWP Kills: 108 total kills
- AWP Kills per Round: .43 kills per round
- Average Kills per Round: .92 KPR
- Percentage of total rounds with two or more kills: 58.4%
- Kill-to-Death Differential: +83
- Average Damage per Round: 92.7 ADR
- Average Damage Differential per Round: On average, s1mple caused 27.6 more points of damage to enemies that he took from them.
- Kill Participation: 81.2%
- Total Opening Kills: 41 opening kills
- Opening Duel Success Rate: 73.2%
- Opening Kills per Round: .16 per round
But s1mple added an even more impressive statistic as the Global Finals wrapped up.
BLAST was s1mple's 76th event in a row above 1.0 rating
As BLAST's Global Finals concluded, s1mple notched one more event in a streak that he started in 2017. In an almost unheard of streak, s1mple has scored above a 1.00 for every single one of the 76 events he's played in since IEM Katowice 2017. It's unfortunate that his rating at Katowice was a hair short at .99, but that was the last time that s1mple finished below the 1.00 benchmark. That’s unheard of.
Fans can find a complete list of s1mple's tournament ratings since IEM Katowice 2017 here.
s1mple’s performance at BLAST put the star player ahead of some of CSGO’s biggest names in the game’s statistical categories. His all-time rating is a great example. While Nicolai “device” Reedtz owns an impressive 1.14 all-time rating, s1mple’s 1.26 rating doesn’t just beat the Astralis star. In fact, s1mple leads the category ahead of two other famous players in G2 Esports Nikola “NiKo” Kovač and former teammate Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovačs.
That’s not all. If the all-time rating wasn’t bad enough, dev1ce is only a single kill ahead of s1mple in CSGO history’s race for best kill-to-death differential of all time. The Astralis AWPer currently leads the category with +1,270 kills in his career, but s1mple is only a single kill behind at +1,269.
It’s clear that almost nothing can stop the Na`Vi superstar from putting up what could be the best career a professional CSGO player has ever recorded. Next up for s1mple is the BLAST Spring Groups, followed by IEM Katowice 2021, and ESL Pro League Season 13. He’ll stand a good chance at keeping his streak alive. And with Astralis also scheduled to attend those same events, s1mple will get to face off against dev1ce for some of CSGO’s all-time top stats.
