The newest champion in League of Legends, Viego, is struggling to find success in solo queue despite being played actively in three different roles.

After his finally being unleashed on Summoner’s Rift, players are spamming Viego in solo queue when he isn’t banned. So far, the Ruined King has seen a lot of play in the jungle, mid lane, and top. With many possible roles to be flexed into, Viego might become a scary pick when players figure him out, but so far, the win rates aren’t pretty.

So far on patch 11.2, Viego is sitting at the bottom of the win-rate chart, his win rate in jungle being the third worst of all champions in the game. His jungle win rate is sitting at 43.41%, which doesn’t seem ideal for a champion who is officially designed to be a jungler. For the top lane Viego’s win rate is a bit better, but still, nothing to write home about at 44.02%.

Viego is currently performing best in the mid lane and can be used as a solid counter pick in some situations. His win rate in mid is 45.95% and has been climbing over the past couple of days. It’s still unknown if Viego will be strongest as a mid laner on the patches to come, but so far it might seem the best option for him.

While Viego hasn’t been enabled in professional play yet, several pro players have started to experiment with him in solo queue. DWG KIA jungler Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu has been one of the most active professionals on Viego and is pulling off some great performances with him already. Canyon is going the Goredrinker route for his Mythic item, so the meta around Viego might already be changing.

When Viego becomes available in professional play and as players in solo queue get more experience playing him, the win rates will likely adjust.

What is Viego’s best role?

So far, Viego has been picked in the jungle, top lane, and in mid. As of patch 11.2, Viego has seen the most success in the mid lane despite originally being created for the jungle. With that said, Viego is by far picked the most in the jungle and it looks like the most viable role for him in the long run, barring further changes from Riot.

How do you build Viego in LoL?

As an attack damage skirmisher, Viego is great with his own item, the Blade of the Ruined King. Paired up with his Blade of the Ruined King (Q) ability, Viego does a lot of damage on auto-attacks. For extra damage, Trinity Force, The Collector, and Sterak’s Gage are all good options.
