Rekkles, G2 Esports take down MAD Lions in LEC 2021 opener

The 2021 LEC season has finally begun and it started with a bang where G2 Esports took down MAD Lions. 

Fans from all over the world tuned in when the 2021 LEC season kicked off with an exciting match between G2 Esports and MAD Lions. With over 230,000 viewers tuning in, G2 Esports and new ADC Martin “Rekkles” Larsson took down the new MAD Lions squad with aggressive, disciplined play. 

Rekkles with a stellar debut on G2 Esports

After a long and intense offseason, all eyes were on Rekkles down in the bottom lane. After being one of the biggest rivals of G2 in recent years, Rekkles has now joined the other side and managed to play a key role in their first victory together.

Rekkles was placed on one of his classic champions, Sivir, and got to play exactly how he wanted. By farming up in the early game, Rekkles quickly became a threat in team fights which resulted in plenty of kills. Through G2’s signature aggressive play, Rekkles was set up by his team and dished out damage. 

Even though it looked shaky at times, G2 managed to control the chaos and slowly crawl ahead. After Rekkles got his first kills, he was put in the perfect position to carry in the late game. Rekkles even managed to pull off a miracle steal on the Mountain Dragon, just to make his G2 debut even more impressive. 

Just after one game, it already looks like Rekkles is comfortable on G2. Many fans and experts have feared that Rekkles wouldn’t fit into the chaotic and aggressive style of G2, but so far it looks like Rekkles is benefiting from it. On the other hand, it also seems like G2 is happy to have a stable carry in the bottom lane that everyone can rely on. Rekkles ended the game with a perfect 9/0/9 score on Sivir. 

After the perfect start to the season. G2 will face off against SK Gaming on January 23.

What is the G2 Esports 2021 LEC roster?

G2 will play the 2021 season with most of its 2020 roster, but with a major change in the bot lane. G2 made a big move to secure Rekkles from rival organization Fnatic. G2 Esports’ 2021 lineup has the following players:

What happened to G2 Perkz?

It came as a shock to many when former bot and mid laner Luka “Perkz” Perković chose to leave G2 Esports to join Cloud9 in the LCS. After five years with G2, Perkz wanted to become a full-time mid lane player. He couldn’t do that at G2, which resulted in him leaving his long-time home.
