One of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s biggest draws is its weapon cases that offer users the chance to spin the wheel for a rare drop. But with over 20 types of cases and hundreds of skins available, which is the best CSGO case to open?

Even though it’s hard to come up with a definitive answer to that question, there are a few things players should keep in mind as they’re browsing the Steam Marketplace or CSGO’s in-game store looking for cases and trying to find the best one.

Which CSGO case is the best one to open?

The first thing players should think about is what they’re trying to get out of the case. If they want a brand new AWP skin, players should avoid cases that don’t offer a skin for the powerful sniper rifle. Most of CSGO’s cases also include a very rare chance to open a knife, while others can drop gloves instead. And while some CSGO cases contain skins for a variety of weapons, not all cases contain an AK-47 skin, for example.

Players can check out which skins are in each case by searching “case” on the Steam Marketplace, where clicking on a case will bring up the price and a list of potential drops it contains.

1. Broken Fang and Fracture CSGO Cases

As for the best cases to open, players should take a look at these two first. CSGO’s Printstream skins, available for the M4A1-S and the Desert Eagle, are very popular with players. The M4A1-S comes from CSGO’s Operation Broken Fang case, while the Desert Eagle has a chance to drop from the Fracture Case. Both cases can be bought on the Steam Marketplace.

2. CSGO’s Spectrum 1 & 2 and Clutch Cases

There are also a few cases that have remained popular long after their release. Fans of Cowboy Bebop might want to take a close look at the Spectrum and Clutch cases for the Neo-Noir, available on the M4A4 and the USP-S, respectively.  For collectors looking for the full Neo-Noir set, the sci-fi paint style is also available on the AWP from the Danger Zone case and was recently released in Operation Broken Fang’s Havoc collection for the Glock. While the Danger Zone case is commonly available on the marketplace, players won’t be able to roll for the Glock version unless they’ve purchased the Broken Fang pass.

Finally, players who want an upgraded look for the attacking side should take a look at the Spectrum 2 Case and the AK-47 | Empress. Unlike other skins, the Empress doesn’t become scratched when it gets to the field-tested and well-worn conditions. Instead, the skin’s colors get darker as the wear increases, making the Empress look great even at lower wear qualities.

Finally, every CSGO player is always looking for a knife. While many of the game’s later knives can drop from several cases, knives released earlier are often only available in two cases. The Butterfly Knife, known for its fancy draw animations, is the most famous. If players want to try their luck at unboxing one of those, they’ll need to open more than a few Spectrum and Spectrum 2 cases.

CSGO’s best cases also work for trade ups

CSGO also has a “trade up” system that lets players trade in 10 skins of the same rarity in exchange for one skin of the next highest rarity from the skin collection. If players are looking for a rarer skin, opening a few cases and combining their drops with skins players already have is a nice way to trade out skins players aren’t using for a rarer one.

Ultimately, there may not be one specific case that is the best one to open for every CSGO player. Since the skins inside the cases are all different, it’s up to the player to make the decision in the end. But as mentioned, a quick search online will bring up several sites that break down CSGO’s weapon skins by case and have pictures of each. That way, players might be able to avoud disappointment and find exactly what they’re looking for.
