Cloud9 secured its first victory in the 2021 LCS Lock In after demolishing FlyQuest.

After a rocky start in the 2021 LCS Lock In tournament, Cloud9 bounced back in impressive fashion. On day one, Cloud9 tried and failed to play through the mid lane. The team wanted to highlight its blockbuster signing of Luka “Perkz” Perković, but that plan backfired quickly.

On day two, Cloud9 went for something different. This time around, the team put Perkz on Galio and drafted Kindred for jungler Robret “Blaber” Huang. Kindred is not an easy pick to execute, as junglers need coordination from their teammates to get the marks and make the champion work. Unlike the scattered C9 that showed up on Friday, the Saturday version of the team was on the same page at all times.

The map rotations and setups were impeccable, with every single member of the team doing their duty. C9 left nothing to chance and methodically took FlyQuest apart. Despite everyone’s belief that it would be a top lane-centric match, it was decided by the mid laners and their ability to work with their junglers. Perkz and Blaber turned out to be the better duo and Cloud9 walked away with the victory.

Day one’s performance put everyone on high alert, as the kneejerk reaction was that Cloud9 wouldn’t be as good as predicted. Day two changed things back. Cloud9 learned quickly that all the fancy bells and whistles are not necessary to take the victory. If the team focuses on the basics and on teamwork, it can go far in the competition.

As for FlyQuest, the jury is still out on this new lineup. FlyQuest is not playing with its intended jungler, as Latin American star Brandon “Josedeodo” Villegas is yet to join the team. FlyQuest should take this tournament as a learning experience in anticipation of a more successful spring split.

  • Ibrahim “Fudge” Allami
