JUGi to stand in for Complexity during BLAST Premier Global Finals

Complexity Gaming will play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s upcoming BLAST Global Finals with former North player Jakob “JUGi” Hansen, according to a tweet from the organization’s official Twitter account. Fans have known that the team would be without AWPer Valentin “poizon” Vasilev for the tournament.

The North American organization had previously revealed that poizon had undergone emergency surgery on December 9, while a follow-up tweet from poizon himself revealed that a second surgery was scheduled to take place on December 19. Although poizon hasn’t tweeted since then, the team says that he is continuing to recover. 

 JUGi steps into poizon’s role in a particularly good position to make an impact under in-game leader Benjamin “blameF” Bremmer. The two narrowly missed playing with one another on Heroic, with JUGi transferring to OpTic Gaming before blameF made a name for himself as Heroic’s in-game leader.

JUGi spent time on North before he was swept up in Astralis’ spending spree in 2020, signing with the team to stand in Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander and Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth while they were on breaks. He played with Astralis for two tournaments last June, being DreamHack Masters Spring and BLAST Premier’s Spring Showdown. He was released by the team on July 31.

Since then, JUGi found himself competing with Team Secret at OGA Counter PIT Season 8 in November, but rumors from just days ago placed him with Team Liquid, where he was reportedly on the shortlist for the organization’s Valorant roster. It’s unclear what his long-term plans are, but this will hold him over for the time being.

After the team lost Owen “oBo” Schlattery to a surprise flight back to the United States from Europe in September, Complexity’s roster has struggled to regain the dominant form it showed during 2020’s summer months. While the team has won games against top competition in the months since the addition of Justin “jks” Savage, its best finish came at IEM Beijing in 3rd-4th place after a 2-0 to Vitality. Other than IEM, the team has failed to finish higher than 5th since DreamHack Open Summer.

Complexity’s opening match of the tournament is set for Tuesday, January 20, against Team Vitality.
