Cyberpunk 2077 has Easter egg based on Overwatch's Widowmaker
Since Cyberpunk's controversial release, players have continuously found Easter eggs hidden throughout Night City. As part of that, players believe they have found a reference to Overwatch hero Widowmaker.
After interacting with Panam Palmer in the "Ghost Town" mission, players learn they have to kill a character called Nash. Once he's taken care of, V is given his weapon. The tech precision rifle is called "Widow Maker." That would catch the eye of Overwatch fans regardless, but the sniper rifle functions in a way similar to that of the hero. As with Widowmaker, the sniper rifle deals more damage by staying scoped in, much like Widow's Kiss.
Then there's a poison element, which could be a nod to Widowmaker's ability, Venom Mine. Just like Venom Mine, the Widow Maker rifle poisons enemies over time.
One could still chalk all this up as a coincidence, but there's actually more. If players continue to take on Panam's tasks, they'll come across the "Riders of the Storm" mission. Once completed, V is rewarded with another weapon. This time it's a sniper called "Overwatch."
Cyberpunk 2077 was released on December 10 and since then, the game has been picked up by a handful of popular content creators. While entertaining to watch and play, the game has faced criticism due to its choppiness and bugs, particularly on past-generation consoles.
What is the story of Cyberpunk 2077?
Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world game set in the fictional Night City, which seems heavily inspired by Los Angeles. Players take on the role of V, who takes Night City's power-hungry world by storm in search of an implant that promises immortality.
Why did Cyberpunk take seven years?
It's been years and years since Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced. While CD Projekt Red never gave a specific reason behind the long wait, it should be noted that CD Projekt Red is a single studio without the capacity to work on more than one game at a time. At the time of the announcement, Cyberpunk was working on the last DLC for The Witcher 3 and since then, the open world fantasy game has been ported and rereleased a few times over.
