Perkz says he wasn’t allowed to go to Fnatic, will be the best mid in LCS

New Cloud9 mid laner Luka “Perkz” Perković talked about his offseason and how he wasn’t allowed to join the rivals from Fnatic by G2 Esports on a recent Croatian podcast.

During the podcast, Perkz talked about his time with G2 and some of the offers he had gotten during the offseason. Besides the questions from the podcast host, the audience also got to ask the Croatian mid laner a few questions and one of them included Fnatic. 

Perkz answered very clearly that he wasn’t allowed to join Fnatic, something that G2 CEO Carlos “Ocelote” Santiago also addressed in a broadcast very recently. Perkz was reportedly allowed to join any team he wanted except Fnatic. This is due to the fact that Fnatic is G2’s clear rivals and Ocelote didn’t want to make them the possibly best team in Europe. Since Perkz was still on a contract with G2  before moving to C9, Ocelote essentially had the last say in where he could or couldn’t go. 

Despite not being able to move to Fnatic, Perkz had a lot of other opportunities. According to Perkz, he had offers from China, Korea, Europe, and almost every team in North America. This left Perkz with quite a lot of options, that ended with him joining C9 and his former teammate Jesper “Zven” Svenningsen. 

Perkz said in the podcast that he didn’t want to join a team in Asia because of the culture shock and the fact that he would have to learn a completely new language. 

Even though Perkz is moving to a completely new region, the mid laner is very confident in his own ability to be the best. Perkz said that he doesn’t think there is any mid-lane competition in the LCS, except for Team Liquid mid laner Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen and Team SoloMid mid laner Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage who he thinks is good.  

Lastly, Perkz touched on coaches and how he doesn’t think coaches are that important in the current state of professional League of Legends. The coaching debate has been relevant for years, with the never-ending discussion about if a coach can decide the outcome of a team’s success or not. 

According to Perkz, this is not the case. He thinks that coaches are “mostly useless in the industry so far” and that it’s often players that create the strategy. He says that this is getting better as former professional players are now turning to the coach role. 

Is Perkz a mid laner?

Perkz is going back to being a mid laner for the 2021 season. Perkz was originally a mid laner when he started his professional career, but swapped to the bot lane on G2 at the end of 2018 to give room for his new teammate Rasmus “Caps” Winther in the mid lane. While Perkz has done well as a bot laner, he will always be most comfortable in his original role in mid.

Perkz is, despite his experience and accomplishments as a League of Legends player, only 22 years old. The Croatian superstar has achieved more than most players ever will, by going to the World Championship five times and winning eight domestic trophies. Perkz is now heading to North America to add new trophies to his collection.

The League Championship Series, also known as the LCS, is the biggest league in North America. The league consists of the 10 best teams in the region and is the direct way to the World Championship in North America. The league has existed since the start of 2013 and has since then become a franchised league where all teams own a spot to compete.
