Riot looking to nerf Kayle, Kayn, more on LoL patch 10.25

Reading time: 4 min

Patch 10.25 is right around the corner and there will be a lot of changes to both champions and items once again.

This patch will be the last of 2020 and Riot is therefore doing everything they can to balance out the game, which is currently in a shaky preseason state. There are a lot of bugs in the game at the moment and many champions are either sitting at too high win rates or way below the average. Items have a big say in this, but Riot will also try to adjust the champions individually for this upcoming patch.

In the detailed patch preview by gameplay design director Mark “Scuffy” Yetter, a long list of nerfs and buffs were presented. It’s time to take a look at some of the most substantial nerfs.

Riot will tone down Kayle on patch 10.25

Pentakill Kayle

  • Base magic resist 34 >> 30
  • E – Starfire Spellblade, passive on hit ap ratio 25 >> 20%

The first head on the chopping block is Kayle, who has been sitting at the highest win rate in Platinum rank and above among all champions on patch 10.24. She is succeeding in the mid lane with over 55% win rate, which is clearly way too much.

While this is mostly due to some of the new strong items, Riot will be toning down her AP ratio on Starfire Spellblade and her base magic resist. These changes will hopefully make Kayle easier to deal with in the mid lane.

Kayn gets the hammer on LoL patch 10.25

Soulhunter Kayn

  • Base armor 38 >> 35
  • Q – Reaping Slash, base damage 75-155 >> 65-145
  • Q – Reaping Slash, cooldown 6-4 >> 7-5 seconds

Kayn has been the strongest assassin jungler throughout patch 10.24, mainly because of his ability to snowball and build a lot of ability haste to spam abilities. Riot is looking to tone that down by giving him a longer cooldown on his main-damage source Reaping Slash, while also decreasing the damage.

Kayn will likely be a little less scary in the early game from now on, but also scale worse into the late game which squishy carries will come to appreciate.

Riot continues to nerf tank items

Sunfire Aegis

  • Bami’s Cinder – Cost 1000 >> 1100 gold
  • Sunfire Aegis – Health 450 >> 350

Riot will once again have the tank items in focus for patch 10.25. Riot already went through with quite a few nerfs, especially Bami’s Cinder and Sunfire Aegis, but it doesn’t seem to be enough.

Tanks are still heavily represented among the best champions in the game and will need further nerfs to enter a more balanced state. These new nerfs will hopefully take away enough of the power that is currently utilized by champions such as Amumu, Nunu & Willump, and Malphite.

Patch 10.25 is expected to hit the live servers on December 9.

What patch is LoL on right now?

League of Legends is on patch 10.24 as of December 2, 2020. The game will move on to patch 10.25 on December 9, which will be the last patch of 2020. In the new year, Riot will begin dropping Season 11 patches.

Is Kayn good in LoL?

Kayn has been one of the best jungler in LoL patch 10.24, which is why Riot is looking to nerf him. The jungle assassin has been sitting at over 54% win rate in Platinum rank and above throughout the whole patch. Many players have been able to climb in solo queue with Kayn because he easily snowballs out of control.

What lane is Kayle in LoL?

Kayle is one of the most flexible champions in League of Legends but is currently best in the mid lane on the 2021 preseason patches. Kayle has been very dominant since the big item rework on patch 10.23, placing her among some of the best champions in the game from looking at solo queue win rates.
