Neymar banned from Twitch, likely due to DMCA strikes

Update: It’s also possible that Neymar’s Twitch ban came as a result of his accidental leaking of fellow Premier League star Richarlison de Andrade’s phone number live on stream. Richarlison tweeted that he received more than ten thousand messages after Neymar showed the telephone number on stream.

Famed dual-threat star Neymar received his first ban from Twitch, and most are blaming the internet’s sudden crackdown on anyone who runs afoul of the Digital Millenium Copyright Act.

Paris Saint-Germain F.C. soccer superstar and popular Counter-Strike: Global Offensive streamer Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior was banned from Twitch for the first time, making him the second star banned from the platform in the past week. With no reason provided by either Twitch or Neymar, fans on both Reddit and Twitter were left trying to figure out what happened, with many threads speculating that Neymar’s ban could have come from playing music during his CSGO streams.

Neymar hit with Twitch ban as DCMA bans pile up

Neymar isn’t the first to take a hit like this, either. Variety streamer and ex-CSGO pro Jared “summit1g” Lazar spoke publicly about his own struggles with copyright issues while chatting with his viewers. summit1g revealed that he has already had three DCMA strikes filed against his channel. When a viewer commented that there’s no way Twitch would ban one of its biggest stars, even summit1g admitted he was a little worried.

Neymar’s ban comes just days after an actual CSGO pro got hit with his fourth ban in two years. Natus Vincere’s Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev has been locked out of Twitch on a number of occasions due to his use of homophobic slurs. It does not seem as though Neymar was banned for similar reasons. 

Since Twitch rarely speaks about bans, many streamers have been left scratching their heads. Neymar’s obsession with CSGO has led to some impressive moments, like this one versus three clutch that had Neymar dying of laughter.

Fortunately for Neymar, first-time bans from the internet’s biggest streaming platform usually last just one week, so it won’t be long until he’s back to clutching rounds across CSGO’s maps. Until then, he might have to deal with one or two jokes at his expense.
