Overwatch pro Lane “Surefour” Roberts might not be competing in the next season of the Overwatch League.

On Twitter, Surefour told his fans that he’s taking a break from competitive Overwatch. He said it was “for the best” that he step away from the Overwatch League.

“I’ve dealt with a lot the past three years and wasn’t in a great state of mind because of it. But, meeting a bunch of new people and hanging out with them has corrected it a bunch,” Surefour tweeted.

Why is Surefour leaving the Overwatch League?

Surefour is one of the most well-known Overwatch players in the world.

During the 2020 season, Surefour played with the Toronto Defiant. Being from Canada, this seemed like a good fit for the star flex DPS. Before that, he competed for the Los Angeles Gladiators for two seasons. Despite Surefour consistently making impressive plays with Pharah, Widowmaker, and McCree, the team finished 15th in the regular season.

Toronto Defiant didn’t re-sign Surefour for the 2021 season, meaning he was set up to be a free agent going into next season. While many Overwatch League pros have retired from pro play due to stress and a strenuous schedule, Surefour didn’t mention the specific reason for his break. Surefour also didn’t mention if he will be returning to pro play after the 2021 season.

On Twitch, Surefour hasn’t been too active. He streamed for six hours in the last seven days, mainly playing World of Warcraft. It’s unclear if Surefour will turn to streaming Overwatch or if he wants a break from the gaming and esports scene altogether.
