Philadelphia Fusion may have defeated Atlanta Reign 3-2, but the team’s biggest moment was on a map they didn’t even win.

After losing the first point on control map Nepal, Fusion decided to break away from the standard GOATS composition and bring out Jae-hyeok “Carpe” Lee’s signature Widowmaker. Both teams came out of the spawn with double snipers, but it soon became clear who the dominate sharpshooter was as Carpe single-handedly took back the point from Atlanta.

Carpe completely cleared the point by landing headshots on Ilya “NLaaeR” Koppalov’s Widowmaker, Steven “Kodak” Rosenberge, and finally on Park “Pokpo” Hyun-jun’s Orisa.

Another highlight of the point saw Carpe sneaking around the outside of the building, creeping up behind NLaaeR. After taking care of the opposing Widowmaker, Carpe made quick work of Petja “Masaa” Kantanen, landing another headshot while his opponent’s Lucio was zooming through the air.

On the third map of the series, Carpe brought Widowmaker back as an attempt to break a 4-4 tie. Philadelphia hoped their DPS-heavy comp would catch their opponents off guard, but Atlanta was prepared. The expansion team focused Carpe early and finished the map victorious.

It was no surprise that Carpe was crowned Player of the Match after Fusion won the deciding game.

Carpe has become well-known in the Overwatch League for his game-changing Widowmaker plays, and his deadly accuracy was showcased in many post-game highlights. In Season 1, New York Excelsior’s Hae-seong “Libero” Kim said it was “scary” to face against Carpe’s Widowmaker.

In this season’s prevalent three tank and three support meta, Carpe’s successful Widowmaker play stands out even more. It’s a treat for fans who’ve grown accustomed to seeing the likes of Zarya, D.Va, Winston, and Reinhardt take the majority of game time.

The DPS main said that snipers are his favorite to play in most games, but he has spent most of Season 2 on Zarya, complying with the GOATS meta.

Carpe’s goal this year is to be crowned MVP at the end of Season 2.
