Team Liquid running first esports hackathon hosted by an org

Team Liquid recently announced a new initiative called Liquid Hacks.

“The sky’s the limit” with this program, Team Liquid stated. Solo hackers or teams of friends can apply to Liquid Hacks for the opportunity to create an app, website, to software program that benefits the esports industry, the teams, and their fans.

“This is an exciting opportunity to build some really awesome software or hardware projects that could help shape the future of esports,” Team Liquid stated on a LinkedIn post revealing the initiative. According to the application form, Liquid Hacks is the first esports hackathon that’s run by an esports organization.

Applications are now open and will be accepted through October 22.

Team Liquid has yet to release details about the event, but have provided some rules for participants to consider. Teams can contain a maximum of four members and everyone must be 18 years of age or older to participate. They must also live in the United States and Canada, although a European hackathon appears to be coming soon.

A hackathon is a social engineering competition where you can participate solo or in a team to create software/hardware projects.

This event is only for people in the US and Canada, but don’t worry! We may have plans to have this happen in other regions too…????

There are no application or entry fees to participate in Liquid Hacks. Hopefuls don’t even need to know how to code. Programming experience and background does not matter. Instead, it’s about each team’s creativity and innovation.

Hackathons have continued to grow in the esports community. Many hackathons don’t only come with the excitement of ideas coming to life, but monetary prizes. TechCrunch’s Disrupt Hackathon had a $50,000 grand prize. Many winning teams will also land jobs in their chosen industry after showing off their skills and ideas.
