PSG Talon pulled off the biggest upset of 2020 World Championship by taking down JD Gaming, but it was too little too late.

PSG Talon went out of the tournament with a bang. The PCS got disqualified early after losing versus DAMWON Gaming, yet the squad made every match count. Unlike some teams that might take this as an opportunity to play “troll” compositions, PSG Talon took every minute of the remaining matches seriously.

PSG Talon creates the blueprint to defeat JDG at Worlds 2020

Ahead of Worlds, JDG was part of the conversation as one of the favorites to take the title. As the tournament progressed, JDG started losing some of its power and now the team is looking more vulnerable than ever.

PSG Talon just handed the remaining teams at Worlds a blueprint on how to defeat this LPL squad.

Solid early game

It all started in the early levels for PSG Talon. Jungler Kim “River” Dong-woo visited the mid lane early and forced Zeng “Yagao” Qi to burn flash. That play opened a window for River to return to mid lane and pick up kills. River kept coming back and turned that mid lane priority into objective control.

River ganked lane and went for a dragon if available, focusing on increasing the global advantage. River didn’t visit the side lanes or tried to invade the enemy jungle, he decided to take a slow approach to the game.

River and PSG Talon refrained from fighting and instead focused on farming. JDG wanted to force the skirmishes, but PSG Talon wouldn’t fall for it. The PCS squad kept growing its advantage quietly.

Dragon soul a win condition

The final nail in the coffin was the Ocean dragon soul at 22 minutes. Up until that point, JDG didn’t feel the need to contest the dragons. PSG Talon stacked three and got an extremely early soul. Powered up with that buff, the team felt comfortable enough to go for the baron buff.

JDG had to fight for it, but the advantage was too big for them to truly contest the baron. PSG Talon took the baron and the win.

This match was proof that a slow and steady pace can be successful against the LPL squads.
