s0m leaves Gen.G, retires from CSGO to join NRG Valorant roster

Sam "s0m" Oh has announced his retirement from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive to make a fresh start in new tactical shooter Valorant.

The 18-year-old rifler will be following in the footsteps of his former in-game leader, Damian "daps" Steele. NRG took to twitter to announce s0m's arrival to their Valorant division that is still in its embryonic stage with only two members on its roster so far. With s0m's addition, the team will have three more empty slots before they can begin competing.

Coach Chet "Chet" Singh and daps await s0m's arrival in NRG's Valorant roster.

The rifler's departure comes as a surprise for fans as the player was still in the early stages of his CSGO carrier. The young rifler stepped into the competitive world of CSGO in 2017, but only managed to play under prominent banners after late 2018.

Gen.G acquired the player from Envy in 2019, and he then helped the team lift DreamHack Open Anaheim 2020 and ESL: Road to Rio trophies. His fine aim and dexterous movement earned him an MVP award at Dreamhack 2020 for peaking a rating of 1.33.

ESL: Road to Rio was Gen.G's last win during the online era of CSGO. The American lineup's struggles became quite visible as soon as live events were cancelled. The organization has already lost their in-game leader daps, who left the squad to pursue his own career in Valorant. With s0m's departure from Gen.G and transfer to NRG, the two teammates will get a chance to play together again.

s0m and daps' departure leaves Gen.G with three players in their CSGO roster.

s0m to play the role of duelist for NRG

s0m will be joining the NRG's valorant lineup as a duelist, as his sharp aim allows him to rush in and get opening kills. The player can help his team gain an early advantage thanks to his agility and daring play style.

s0m has managed to stay at the top of the ladder in his short time in the CSGO scene. Under an experienced coach like Chet who has propelled many CSGO rosters to success, great things can be expected from NRG's Valorant roster.

NRG's current lineup still lacks an AWPer, a controller, and an initiator. Considering that daps and chet both have previously played as entry fraggers, they are likely to stick to the roles of duelists.
