Overwatch League support star Kim "Alarm" Kyeong-bo was named Rookie of the Year for the Overwatch League 2020 season.
Alarm has been very impactful this season even though it's his first year appearing on the Overwatch League's virtual stage. The 19-year-old Philadelphia Fusion pro wasn't just impressive for a rookie. He was also one of the best players in the entire league, even being nominated for the Most Valuable Player award.
"He is more than deserving of the title," Philadelphia Fusion exclaimed in a celebratory tweet.
We are UNBELIEVABLY proud of everything @alarm has accomplished during his first year in the league, from Role Star, to MVP Candidate, he is more than deserving of the title...#OWL2020 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR!
Alarm made such an exciting debut in the Overwatch League that the rookie was also featured on the first-ever Role Star team. His impressive stats were outlined in Blizzard's press release, gathered by Ben "CaptainPlanet" Trautman, one of the lengthiest list of achievements out of all the Role Star players.
Alarm gets Overwatch League rookie award after great season
Alarm was first when it came to teamfight win rate as Baptiste, winning 60.2% of the teamfights. He was also first in final blows per 10 minutes on another support hero, Zenyatta, boasting a 7.6 average. Alarm was first for hero damage per 10 minutes with Brigitte in teamfights (5,480) and first for final blows per 10 minutes as Brigitte in teamfights (5.1). He was additionally at the top in first elimination rate with Ana (57.9%) and Moira (56.9%), as he was an impressive player on almost every support hero.
"As a rookie this season, it's been my goal to be Rookie of the Year," Alarm said. "I've been improving my gameplay to achieve this goal."
Alarm started his professional Overwatch career playing for Philly's Contenders team, Philadelphia University. They became dominant in North America, winning four titles.
While playing for the Overwatch League, Alarm shined because of his flexibility. The game's meta shifts constantly due to patches, new heroes, and changing rules. The more adaptable players are the ones who seem to find the most success. His teammate, Gael "Poko" Gouzerch, also noted that Alarm is quite dedicated to the game.
The Overwatch League Grand Finals weekend will begin October 8. The first match will be Seoul Dynasty versus San Francisco. Alarm and the rest of the Fusion will then face Shanghai Dragons.
