DAMWON Gaming uses top lane Lulu to crush Rogue in Worlds 2020

DAMWON Gaming dusted off the strategy of using supports in the top lane to dominate Rogue in the 2020 League of Legends World Championship.

DAMWON played one of the most tilting strategies in the game, putting Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon on a support champion in Lulu. The pick took Rogue by surprise and the team didn’t have a counter to Nuguri.

Lulu dominated the lane early, but not because of her own power. Nuguri used his skills to enhance the power of his jungler, Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu, every time he went for a gank. Rogue had to choose between putting extra resources into the top lane and bleeding somewhere else, or to trying to stabilize through another lane. DAMWON didn’t allow Rogue to do either and, after taking down the first turret, took over the map.

DAMWON is the team with the best vision control at Worlds, nothing happens on the map without DAMWON having full vision of it.

DAMWON looks ready to dominate Worlds 2020

Nuguri paired up with Canyon to roam around the map looking for opportunities. Top Lulu didn’t do much on her own, but the power she provided to her teammates was game-changing. Nuguri went for a full support built while Canyon and Heo “ShowMaker” Su opted for a damage-heavy build.

DAMWON proved to be effective playing a controlled style. The Korean squad took things slow, waiting for the opponent’s mistakes. Rogue played a clean game, but only one small misstep was enough to lose the game.

Moving forward, DAMWON is looking like the strongest team in the event. Flexibility in play-style and objective priority are two of the recurring subjects of the main event. DAMWON can play slow or go for skirmishes, while also getting full map control ahead of the neutral objectives. So far, the teams in group B have been unable to counter DAMWON and it’s looking like it might finish the group stage undefeated.
