DAMWON Gaming destroyed JD Gaming playing a team fight-oriented style, securing its first victory at the 2020 World Championship.

The LCK summer champions sent a clear message: They’re not here to play. DAMWON completely slaughtered JDG playing a style that could be considered LPL-esque. Fast rotations on the map, team fights, and more team fights allowed DAMWON to destroy JDG. The strategy worked out and now DAMWON established itself as the team to beat in group B.

DAMWON is not like the other LCK teams at Worlds

What set DAMWON apart from the competition domestically was its skirmish heavy style. DAMWON likes to fight while the other LCK teams prefer to take things slow. Korean teams have tried for years to leave that passive style behind and become more aggressive. Some teams have mastered the strategy, while others are stuck on the same game plan.

After the Mid-Season Cup, DAMWON completely changed its approach to the game, preferring to accelerate the pace. No other team in the LCK could counter that style and it seems like it might also be the case at Worlds thus far.

DAMWON reads JDG plan at level one

The fight at level one set the tone for the game. JDG went for a late invasion to the red buff but DAMWON had a ward place at the right location and spotted the enemy. JDG wasn’t ready for such a quick reaction. Not only that, but top laner Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon unexpectedly joined his teammates in the fray. Outnumbered, JDG gave up the first blood.

Jungler Seo “Kanavi” Jin-hyeok wouldn’t give up, attempting a level three gank in the bot lane. DAMWON stood in wait and turned the play around. In the end, JDG could only get one kill from that play. Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu shadowed Kanavi and didn’t allow him to impact the lanes in any way.

DAMWON kept fighting and forcing plays. It soon became clear that JDG had no answers for it. DAMWON easily secured its first win in the event and is looking like the frontrunner for the World Champion title.
