Gen.G putting together special Fortnite event Mystic Map Mayhem
Gen.G is set to host a fun and unique Fortnite event.
The esports organization is putting together Mystic Map Mayhem, a unique tournament that will pit players against each other in a series of custom maps across “14 nights of Fortnite.” The event will be hosted in conjunction with Samsung, a company Gen.G has a history of working with.
Third-party Fortnite events have been put together in a number of different ways over the years. Though Epic Games and larger tournament organizers such as ESL have been able to fly in a large number of high-level talent for big events, other tournaments have largely revolved around organized pub stomping.
Gen.G is set to go in a different direction by putting together a series of competitions in custom maps. The maps are themed around Samsung devices, with the three primary maps being teased with a series of images. Another unrevealed map will be used for the finals day of the event.
Mystic Map Mayhem features Fortnite pros, celebrities
As with most gaming events put together by esports organizations, Mystic Map Mayhem will be used to highlight Gen.G’s established Fortnite talent. Though the organization is based out of Korea and best known for its League of Legends team, Gen.G also has an American and all-women Fortnite squad that will be competing in the event.
Gen.G isn’t just looking to run a typical Fortnite tournament, either. The organization announced that the event will also include a group of guests that will compete alongside them. The list includes a variety of talents including Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler, YouTuber Mustard Plays, and EDM producer Alison Wonderland.
It is unknown what sort of custom maps Mystic Map Mayhem will include. Fortnite has seen a host of unique game modes created through fan-made maps ranging from a miniature golf course to scavenger hunts. This event could feature anything of that sort, but odds are no real answer will come until the event kicks off.
Mystic Map Mayhem begins on September 26.
