Overwatch League's Fleta

2020 Overwatch League MVP Award goes to Shanghai Dragons' Fleta

Shanghai Dragons flex DPS Byung-sun “Fleta” Kim has been named the T-Mobile Overwatch League MVP for the 2020 season.

The Dragons are currently in the running for a Grand Finals Championship and Fleta has been a huge part of the team’s success. Fleta has contributed 2,628 eliminations with 1,132 of those eliminations being final blows. For comparison, the next highest player on the Dragons with final blows is Void with 797.

Fleta plays for the Shanghai Dragons, but started his OWL journey with the Seoul Dynasty in seasons one and two. He then joined the Dragons for the 2020 season. He’s well known for his projectile DPS heroes such as Genji and Pharah, but is one of the most flexible players in the league with a deep hero pool.

Fleta’s MVP doesn’t just come with a title. He also was awarded an MVP trophy, $100,000 and an MVP jersey patch for the 2021 season.

Many fans are curious about his MVP skin that will be released in 2021 as well. Each year, the player who wins the MVP has collaborated with Overwatch developers to create a skin representing the team and the player who won. For season one it was Sung-hyeon “JJoNak” Bang, who chose a Zenyatta skin, and last year Jay “Sinatraa” Won chose a Zarya skin.

Fleta, Shanghai Dragons a strong contender for OWL Grand Finals

The regular season for the Dragons has been a successful one, finishing with a 27-2 record and strong positioning for a place in the Grand Finals. They played their way through the Asia bracket, beating the New York Excelsior and Seoul Dynasty to secure their spot in Grand Finals weekend. Seoul, who gave the Dragons a tough match, also made it to the Grand Finals after beating the NYXL in the loser’s bracket.

Although their playoff run went as expected, they’ve still got a tough fight ahead to become champion. The Dragons will have to make their way through at least two more matches before they can compete in the finals and all four teams that made it have proven their skill. Fans have their predictions, but it could truly be any team’s victory.

With this new achievement on his belt, Fleta will lead his team against the San Francisco Shock in the first round of the Grand Finals weekend, which starts Oct 8.
