IWillDominate, others help fans watch Worlds players in solo queue

Christian V. September 15, 2020

The 22 teams for the 2020 World Championship are starting to gather in Shanghai to grind solo queue games and scrim on the Chinese super server. But how can fans watch their favorite players duke it out on Summoner’s Rift?

The Worlds bootcamp is always hyped up because all the best players in the world gather on the same League of Legends server just once per year. This year, all the action happens in China, but the players are having a hard time streaming from the country.

Usually, we see many western players stream their solo queue journey leading up to Worlds, but it has been harder this year. Players have been stuck at hotels and that has put a break to most streaming. Many players are not allowed to stream at specific times because it overloads hotel internet connections

Team SoloMid has taken matters into its own hands so that players can stream for all the hungry fans. According to TSM president Leena Xu, the players will be provided with a complete streaming setup, including their own internet to stream on. It’s expected to arrive shortly, so players from different teams might start streaming on their own soon.

IWillDominate and others are spectating Worlds 2020 players live

Big streamers and content creators have been providing live coverage of the Chinese super server games while the players can’t stream themselves. Christian “IWillDominate” Rivera was one of the first streamers to take the initiative and it has been a big success. IWD has been spectating several western players with live commentary and analysis throughout the games.

IWD got removed from the League Partner Program (LPP) earlier this year, taking away his ability to co-stream the LCS games. Since then, IWD has been doing everything in his power to keep his streams going, this time through live viewing. Luckily for him, IWD does not need permission from Riot to do these spectating streams. Expect IWD to follow some of the highest-rated western players as they close in on hitting the Challenger rank in China.

Former professional mid laner Drew “Midbeast” Timbs has also been putting in a lot of hours spectating professional players. He has been seeing a big increase in viewership, peaking at more than 30,000 viewers.

The spectating streams will most likely continue throughout Worlds. All of them can be accessed through Twitch, so it’s no longer necessary to watch through Chinese streaming platforms.

Q: How can I watch 2020 World Championship players in solo queue?

A: It's possible to watch the 2020 World Championship players in their solo queue games through Twitch streams. IWillDominate and Midbeast provide live coverage of the players when they play solo queue, with live commentary and analysis. TSM players may soon begin streaming themselves as well.
