Team Secret runs through OG, wins Omega League EU Immortal division

Team Secret has won the Omega League Europe Immortal division, an event that will likely go down as the largest Dota 2 tournament of 2020.

Entering Omega League as the consensus best team in the world, Secret lived up to that billing with an almost flawless run through the event that saw them drop just two maps along the way. Secret locked up the $200,000 top prize with a 3-0 sweep of OG.

Game one looked to be going terribly for OG as Secret found an early kill lead after a series of misplays by Johan “n0tail” Sundstein’s Io, Tethering onto creeps and Relocating to his own demise. Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng’s Sven still kept them from falling too far behind, however. He raked in gold and turned the tide for OG, picking up kills in a series of skirmishes that saw OG take the gold and XP leads.

OG was looking to be in TI9 form, playing a fast and aggressive game but Team Secret’s high ground game is still incredibly strong. Lasse Aukusti “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen was there to land massive Chronospheres each time OG pressed tier-three towers. The two teams were finding pick-offs but the ending came when Michał “Nisha” Jankowski made a heads-up play by giving MATUMBAMAN Cheese in the middle of a team fight to turn the tide.

Game two was much less competitive. All three of Secret’s cores found excellent early game farm, with MATUMBAMAN in particular getting out of control with a Lifestealer built for the sole purpose of farming enemy heroes. Though OG had drafted MidOne a counter to Lifestealer in the form of Troll Warlord, the CC of the rest of Secret’s lineup left MATUMBAMAN in total control of the action. 

OG crumbled in game three. Though the early game was even, OG inexplicably went all-in on melee cores despite the fact the team drafted Faceless Void. That lack of cohesion in the draft saw things quickly unravel once the mid-game rolled around, with Secret getting the better of each skirmish. For the second game in a row, all of Secret’s cores were making a serious impact. 

Secret forced a GG call in just 22 minutes to lock up the 3-0 sweep.

Secret’s dominant 2020 continues with Omega League win

The Dota Pro Circuit was canceled and The International 10 won’t be happening any time soon, but that hasn’t stopped Secret from looking absolutely unstoppable throughout the year. This is the seventh top placement in a row, for Secret adding to a spree that already included first-place finishes in the WePlay! Pushka League, ESL One Birmingham, and BEYOND Epic.

Though the cancellation of the DPC and indefinite postponement of The International 2020 is a devastating hit to everyone, Secret is the lone team to rake in a significant sum of cash during this Dota 2 season, having won $892,067 in prize money to this point in 2020.

Unfortunately, it’s unclear if Secret’s strong momentum is going to lead it anywhere. There are no notable events currently scheduled in Europe and it’s unclear whether that will change. This might leave Secret, OG, and every other team in the region in limbo.
