FlyQuest PowerOfEvil: “I still think that NA is underrated.”

FlyQuest is undoubtedly one of the strongest North American teams in League of Legends, proven by their 2020 LCS Summer Split performance. Now, Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage is looking to the finals and he’s not scared of either team. He also spoke to WIN.gg about what it means for FlyQuest and its veteran players to finally make it back to Worlds after all this time. 

How did you feel after your victory against Team Liquid?

PowerOfEvil: Obviously great! It was a really, really long-fought series, going all the way to five games. It was really relieving and an awesome feeling.

Why do you think the series went in your favor? 

I felt like we were the stronger team that day. The games we lost felt like they were lost on our terms. Game two, we lost because we did all the plays and they didn’t work out. Game four, we threw away. TL is definitely a strong team, but it felt like we were more proactive and had the tools to beat them. It felt like we were in the driver’s seat. 

What has made FlyQuest so strong this split?

All players know what our strengths are. We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, too. Everyone has their picks ready and counterpicks ready. And we have a really, really fast pickup of the meta. We are all motivated to spam games in solo queue. Even just getting better, we have a lot of talks and arguments about how we should approach the game and get better. That really helps us. 

Which opponent do you expect to meet in the final, TSM or Liquid?

Honestly, it’s going to be a hell of a close series between TL and TSM. I think it will go to five games. Either team can do it. 

How do you think you’ll perform against the winner?

We aren’t afraid of either team. We beat TSM 2-0 in the regular season and TL in the best-of-five. I feel like we have the mental edge on both teams if we meet them in the finals. Obviously, never underestimate your opponent. There are strong teams that could beat us in a best-of-five if we are not ready or prepared for them. 

All top teams have been pretty inconsistent throughout the split. What have you guys done to stay consistent for this many weeks without losing?

Our core is just really stable. We don’t make too many mistakes, especially on stage. We are a really good stage team that’s activated on stage. On stage, we have that extra energy, an extra 10%, and that gives us a lot of our stable early games. We’re not getting ganked or caught that easily and that helps us out a lot. 

What does it mean to bring FlyQuest to the World Championship this year?

I’m extremely happy to make it to Worlds. IgNar and I haven’t made it since we were in Misfits three years ago. For WildTurtle it was even longer, maybe five years for him. For all of us, we’re extremely excited to make it back there. We’re a veteran team with somewhat old players making it back to that stage. We are extremely happy to be performing how we are performing. 

What is your goal at Worlds 2020? 

The goal should always be to play as well as we can and make it as far as we can. To make our region proud. The expectations for NA teams are low but that doesn’t discourage me or my team. We are taking it one step at a time. We don’t know our group yet, but we will try our best. 

Do you think fans are underestimating North America’s LCS teams this year? 

If you look at the past years, obviously other regions have done better than NA at Worlds. But I still think that NA is underrated.

The teams that go to Worlds need to prove the fans wrong. That’s how I see it. I’m not too upset. I’m just going to try my best to change that narrative.
