G2 Esports and Fnatic will fight for the top spot in the 2020 LEC Summer Split finals in a clash between the two most successful European organizations in League of Legends.

It’s a matchup that we have seen many times in recent years, and it always delivers. In 2019 the teams met in the summer finals, where G2 won after five close games. This was followed up by a rematch in the 2020 Spring Split finals, where G2 demolished Fnatic 3-0 despite Fnatic having played well throughout the split.

The two teams will once again clash in an important match, and it has the potential to be another nailbiter. Both teams struggled through the regular split, losing to teams that they usually wouldn’t. In the playoffs, both teams seemed to wake up and it finally looks like the two European giants have found their form.

G2 started out by defeating MAD Lions convincingly in the first round of the upper bracket. In this series, the whole of G2 showed up and it wasn’t only mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Winther doing the heavy lifting.

Fnatic also proved to fans that they should still be considered a favorite for the LEC trophy. Martin “Rekkles” Larsson and the troops took down the top seed Rogue with a clean 3-0 sweep, silencing their critics in the process.

The matchup has favored G2 ever since the team picked up Caps from Fnatic in November 2018. Since then, G2 has dominated Europe and secured itself a Worlds final appearance and a Mid-Season Invitational trophy. Fnatic has been in the shadow of G2 for some time now, performing well against all teams in Europe except for G2.

It looks like G2 has found the perfect way to defeat Fnatic every time, leaving Fnatic with what looks like a mental block whenever the two sides face off. The jungle matchup will be most crucial for both teams. Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski and Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek are both aggressive junglers who can create big leads in the early game. Whichever jungler shows up on the day might end up deciding the outcome of the best-of-five series.

With that said, G2 has a big advantage in the mid lane where Caps has been popping off all split. Fnatic’s Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek will have to play his best to keep up with the Danish mid laner. Looking at the bot lane, Fnatic might find its advantage in raw power. Rekkles has been the most consistent factor on Fnatic, while Luka “Perkz” Perković has been shaky, giving Fnatic a chance to win through the bot lane.

G2 Esports is heavily favored to beat Fnatic

The match-up has historically favored G2, especially in recent years. This is still the case going into this match, where G2 is considered a heavy favorite by bookmakers. A G2 victory currently gives odds 1.28, while a Fnatic win grants you a whopping odds 3.30

It’s hard to imagine that Fnatic will reach a higher odds than this, so being a Fnatic believer could end up paying off in this case.

The match will begin on Saturday, August 29, where the two European giants will fight for the first LEC finals spot.
