The schedule for the 2020 League of Legends World Championship was revealed during a Tencent Esports conference.

The tournament will be held in a bubble format, instead of the previous plans where Worlds would travel around China to some of its major cities. The bubble format means that the tournament will be held in the same place, without players needing to travel to different locations and risking health issues.

Where will the 2020 World Championship take place?

Worlds will take place in Shanghai, China, where all teams will be hosted for the duration of the tournament. Almost every match will be played remotely, but the final is set to be played at the newly constructed Pudong Soccer Stadium. The stadium is the home of the Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG.

The stadium has space for more than 30,000 people, but it’s unclear whether the final will have any attending crowd.

When does the 2020 World Championship start?

The biggest League of Legends tournament of the year will start on September 25, where the play-in stage is set to begin. The group-stage will begin on October 3, so it will be a hectic schedule for the teams who manage to qualify through the play-ins.

When is the 2020 World Championship final?

Everyone will be looking forward to the playoffs stage, where the best teams in the world will clash against each other on Summoner’s Rift.

LoL Worlds 2020 playoffs begin on October 24. LoL Worlds 2020’s finals is on October 31.

This means that this year’s world championship will be the fastest fans have seen in years, taking place over five weeks.

Here is the full tournament schedule.

  • Play-in stage: September 25 – September 30
  • Group stage: October 3 – October 11
  • Quarterfinals: October 15 – October 18
  • Semifinals: October 24 – October 25
  • Finals: October 31

Who will participate in the 2020 World Championship?

24 teams in total participate in LoL Worlds 2020, with teams from all over the world. Each region will have varying numbers of representatives depending on performance in international competitions in recent years. China’s LPL and Europe’s LEC will both have four teams each at the tournament, while Korea’s LCK and North America’s LCS will have three apiece. The remaining spots go to other upcoming regions.

12 teams will participate at the play-in stage, where teams will be fighting for spots at the main event of the tournament. At the main event, 16 teams will participate in the group stage.

Currently, seven teams have been found for Worlds including big names such as G2 Esports, Fnatic, JD Gaming, and Team Liquid.
