How Treatz surpassed Biofrost and made TSM a better team

The recent addition of Erik “Treatz” Wessén to the LCS roster has paid off in a big way for Team SoloMid

There was a mixed response from TSM fans when the team decided to sub in Treatz for the popular Vincent “Biofrost” Wang going into week 6 of the 2020 LCS Summer Split, but the team has looked completely different since.

While Biofrost was an important member of TSM when he first joined the team in 2016, his stats in 2020 had not been anything to write home about. During his 10 games in the summer split, Biofrost achieved a KDA of 2.7 and had 0.45 average wards per minute. These stats are not necessarily bad, but they were not ideal for a team that is chasing a trophy.

Treatz, on the other hand, has taken the league by storm with some very impressive stats after his first seven games. Treatz is currently sitting on a 22.23 KDA, which is by far the highest among all players in the LCS. The sample size is smaller than it is for most other supports, but it’s an impressive statistic nonetheless.

Treatz has also proven himself as a consistent player that won’t be easily caught out during games. The Swedish support has not died a single time in his last five games, with three total deaths throughout all seven of the LCS games he's played.

Is Treatz better for TSM than Biofrost?

Since Treatz joined the LCS roster, TSM has won six games and only lost one. While Treatz is not the only reason for that most recent success, it seems that TSM is finally clicking the right way and has found the perfect balance across its roster. Mid laner Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg has been crushing it since the roster change and is now considered an MVP candidate for the split.

Treatz has already shown through his KDA and scant few deaths that he is a capable support player, but his champion pool and game knowledge make him even more impressive. Treatz has played six different champions in his seven appearances and it doesn’t seem like he's done showcasing his variety of play styles.

Treatz has also mentioned in an interview that he has previously climbed to Challenger rank in solo queue on all five in-game roles, which granted him a high level of knowledge about the game. Knowing the ins and outs of your own role is one thing, but having insight on all other roles across the map can result in a big advantage on Summoner's Rift.

Treatz is also a very vocal player, which is something Biofrost has never been known for. During streams and on the YouTube show TSM Legends, it has been clear that Treatz has a big voice in the team's communications despite him being an LCS rookie.

We will still have to see more games from Treatz before making a final determination, but it now seems that he is fitting perfectly with TSM's LCS roster.

Biofrost still has more experience and brings proven synergy with bot laner Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng, so it’s not unthinkable that TSM would be switching between the two supports. But if Treatz continues to play at the level he has thus far, it's hard to imagine him not continuing on as TSM's starting support player.
